Tim Keal ban

Post by Mysoft »

hi people, whats up with his perma-ban?

seeing the screenshots of the cause i "kinda" understand the reason, since he pasted an akward unsolicited link...
but for that being called a "dubious" link thats a stretch, since everybody should know by now that he uses his site instead of github and etc...

also the other part of the reason claimed to be "off-topic", my understanding, is that he did a modification of the code posted by a guy on THAT topic
and wanted to show as another way to do it (better in his opinion).

so whoever did the ban... i think it was an overreaction... maybe requiring some clarification or telling him to post the actual code instead of the link, but oh well, its keal its his process... everybody should known him by now

so whats up? :)

I just removed his ban, but his link had been blocked by my Firefox and classified as dangerous!

yes because unknown = dangerous on the firefox land, not necessarily at url level, but if the site have downloads... dangerous++... if the site isnt made in modern crap... dangerous++... and so on... just like virus total been flagging any freebasic as virus for the last 10 years at least... altough i guess despite lot of convincing and e-mailing and reporting... most of them are not blindly assuming that anymore... however my own host "mysoft.zapto.org" had the same problem... because other people used "zapto.org" for viruses so downloading any exe from anything .zapto.org = INSTANT virus :P hehe

yeah probabily newer account for whatever reason, he keeps losing his accounts/files (but i guess now cloud is helping with that) he also have a disorder, so can't blame him, he is on the same line as ronen, that people also being harsh to (mostly on discord i think, but he avoids the places due not being good for his health condition)

but yeah keal been on freebasic channel since 2006 at least if memory does not serves me right, so most of the classic community knows him very well hehe

Since as a moderator, I am obliged to test many links to see where it sends, I cannot take such a risk of forcing the connection on links reported as dangerous.

Yes i agree with that ..and that is true , most BASIC dialects have same problem.
I am asking you all...what we are ..? a "trash"...this is my protest !

sites like VirusTotal and other similar BS should be removed from Internet.

Hello,

The site from Tim Keal begins with http and not with https
He are using an old URL address (http)
It should now start with https, not http
The s means safe
This is why the blockers are calling the site unsafe.

In addition, I seem to remember that this link pointed to a '*.zip' file.

How would I note to users that I can't afford 270 dollars a year towards GoDaddy for simple security certificates to use with my websites?

Affording HTTPS over HTTP isn't as simple as changing a server setting, and without such, many web browsers such as Firefox and anti-virus clients such as Norton and McAfee raise warnings par to bloody murder.

And yes, it was a direct link to a 7z archive regarding my 1:1 rewrite of "Treewalk.bas" as originally posted by "bcohio2001" at the following freebasic dot net forum post: viewtopic.php?p=238160#p238160

And yes, I have in fact been programming in FreeBASIC since v0.11

My only post before such covered importing BASICA, GW-BASIC and QBasic image files into FreeBASIC.

Sorry for the scare.

I switched from http to https for nothing by using Cloudfare. A year ago it was updated to http/3; also free. I get statistics each month.

Cloudfare

Note that is an en-gb link.
