FBEdit Fork needs new name
FBEdit Fork needs new name
Me and the few others working on updating FBEdit's source think it needs a new name to separate it from the old FBEdit. But no good ideas are coming to us.
What do you guy's think? Have a good idea? Let us know!

Re: FBEdit Fork needs new name
Free Basic® 2012 Enterprise Edition. That should add a few zeroes onto the price tag. (Which, admittedly, is currently zero.)
But seriously, it would be interesting to see a revival of this.

Re: FBEdit Fork needs new name
It's my favorite editor due to the nice project support. I really like that plugin someone made to help with those line-endings too.
FBE+?
FBEV (FBEdit-eVolved)
FBICE (FreeBASIC Integrated Compiler Enviroment)
heh, you could just go on and on really... someone will come up with something that will stick.

Re: FBEdit Fork needs new name
Why change the name? That would cause more confusion in my opinion.
Just in case there are more than one fork
FbEdit2 -> FbEdit3 ......
or
FbEditX -> FbEditX1 -> FbEditX2 -> ....

Fbedit V2
keep it real , keep it honest , reduce confusion , increase utility
if and when you have an awesome recode that is miles away from the original then call it something else
I feel compelled to add
The failure of open source software is due to one thing. Coders indulging in pet projects with scant regard for lay others who may wish to use it. An orgy of geekdom and nerdom. Can code = mustcode = true = basis for motivation. However the aim is seldom the creation of 'software made easy' for the millions of potential users out there......more than a slight nod in the direction of that potential user base of millions is required to change the outcome.
harsh maybe, but thats the reality. 99% of my code is a self indulgent exploration too.
HCI (Human Computer Interaction ) is the missing skill in the chain.....when that link is added open source software will start to dominate
I have the same compulsion to Design as other have to Code...thus my focus is a little different but my skills are like a long lever that lift software out of the ditch and onto the main highway.

I try not to say anything to most of your posts, but since this one is directed at me, I feel compelled to add:
Most of what you say means nothing. It is jargon and half ideas strung together into semi-coherent sentences. I am sure you mean well, but your message is not getting through in the way you want it to.
I have studied UI (User Interface) design, and I have a pretty good idea of how to handle "Human Computer Interaction" with in the structure available to me.
I use this IDE for all my coding projects. I would not do anything to make it an "orgy of geekdom and nerdom", what ever that means. I am not working on the project because I want to make it harder to use. I am working on it because it had bugs, errors, and omittions that made it more difficult to use.
I'm not sure why you felt it necessary to widely swing this request for naming help far off topic, but I have heard you repeat this same mantra over and over again. Saying it again will not make it true.
If you want to give me some ideas for a new IDE or project that are more than just hand-wavy "make it easier" style suggestions, I will gladly take them. But the above post, it has nothing but very general and very unhelpful suggestions.
If you have a specific suggestions, please tell me. I want to make this IDE the best FB has to offer. I want to make it the standard. So all real suggestions are welcome.
@Everyone else: Thank you for your suggestions.
@JCFuller: I see your point. The goal was to make it clear that this version would be differentiated from KetilO's work. We can only build on it. We did not want to take credit for all his hard work, but still want to show that the code base is "under new management" in a way. We thought about just moving up to version 2, or adding an X on the end, but those just didn't seem the best idea. Your suggestions will be taken into account though.
