Looks nice! Have you made the physics/movement FPS independent? If not, it might be a rewarding challenge for you. Makes anything (especially 3d) a much nicer experience.

yes it should work now.

if you have any problem , you can always change maxfps to 20 in the "custom" menu (F4)

Hi chung,

I just downloaded and ran your program and think it is pretty good. It certainly seems to show how FB can be used with OpenGL to write a 3D game. Probably above my ability however.

I googled for such games to compare.

I notice in your world the car is not confined to the road. One thing I find hard is steering with a keyboard, it is very unnatural and it makes me look like a bad driver :) Does your program work with one of those steering wheels and pedals you can buy for such games? I noticed a joystick and gamepad control. The car sound is kind of tinny.

Played with it some more and am getting better at key control of steering. The other car drivers need some lessons and those pesky pedestrians have no road sense. Of course for me the steering wheel is on the wrong side of the car and everyone is driving on the wrong side of the road as well :)

hi !
tryed your link but couldnt play (got spam and adds instead).
i downloaded TORCS open source car racing game on sourceforge but found it rather unplayable (too hard for me), thats why i made circuit_chung and then enhanced the game graduately.
Can not test the wheels and pedals but if it can be programmed as a gamepad, this could work.
latest enhancement : have a look to the seashore with rocks in the water :)

@Joshy
Was it also written using freebasic and openGL?
It made me think of the Mars rovers.
A shadow for the vehicle would make it look more solid and attached to the terrain.

The graphic are only the shapes of the physics bodies.
May be I should combine it with my opengl 1.4 car rendering and of course FBSound.

@Joshy
I assume the cars were not generated in real time?
The changing reflections as they turn make them look very real but again no shadows.

If I tell you opengl 1.4 it's real time i posted the source code here on the forum.
BasicCoder2 wrote:but again no shadows.
looks like your problem are the shadow.
I posted realtime OpenGL shadow also.

The grip of the wheels the suspension the drive shaft and many more are the real problems
for a one man show not the shadows of polygones.
Shadow is the place without light not more :lol:

finaly managed to play the game "3D car racing" ... mine is better :)

but as not freeware i tryed also "test drive unlimited" on ps2 (the best i played) or gta but you have to push regularly on the gas button if not your speed decreases , i prefer when you can maintain a cruise speed and look at the scene.
"city car driving" youtube videos impresses me too but i wonder if it can run on a small netbook.
