FreeBasic Top 50 Website Launch
It's a "vote" when someone clicks the link from the topsite...that's how the ranking in the list is determined. A "vote explosion" is when someone gets a bunch of their buddies or whatever to go to a topsite and click the link to their site for the purpose of rank inflation. I personally tend to strongly dislike topsites for that reason...sites with little to no content end up at the top of the list while sites with real content get shoved to the bottom. I'm not specifically saying it's happening here but it's an undying trend and it certainly looks like it's going on, but I could be wrong.syn9 wrote:the vote explosion? please elaborate. as far as i know there isnt a voting system... the ranking is based on unique site visits over the last 10 days
ah, yea, i see what you're saying... thats why i have it default set to list by pageviews instead of hits out. it seams more fair that way.
i hope you're not referring to me when i was in the #1 spot. i dont have a hell of a lot of content, but i do get a fair amount of hits, and my hits have been relatively constant for the last year. http://syn9.thingie.net/?table=counts

Ummm...I never voted for my site or asked anyone else to. As syn9 said, rankings are based on pageviews rather than votes. So quit whining.Nodtveidt wrote:It's a "vote" when someone clicks the link from the topsite...that's how the ranking in the list is determined. That's because it's "unranked" and would never have any hits until I figure out where to put this:Dr_D wrote:Damn man... our site is in last place! :(

Wow, you still don't know how to read. Amazing. And the fact that you automatically think I'm talking about your site simply shows that you're the kind of person who DOES get his friends to help your rank. Pretty pathetic. Oh well...tis the nature of topsites...someone's always going to abuse them.Plasma wrote:Ummm...I never voted for my site or asked anyone else to. Take a chill pill, you just come in here and spew negativity. And no, that stupid smiley that went along with your cold comment does not make it a happy post.

And what was the number one ranked site folks? phatcode.net. wow. Plasma's simple reading of posts has screwed him over. You're supposed to divine a holy meaning and hold your tongue, admitting the absolute correctness of not.Nodtveidt wrote:I wasn't referring to that, v1c...I was referring to the vote explosion on the #1 ranked site.
