Re: Programming game competition! (Christmas theme!)
More game competitions then game programmers these days :-)
Already trying to make something for this one: https://freebasic.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=27069
I don't like adventure games anyway.

I actually downloaded many good FreeBASIC games on this website in the past. There should be many talented FreeBASIC game programmers, sure!!badidea wrote:More game competitions then game programmers these days :-)

However, the following information is very interesting. I find some threads about Syntaxbomb's previous game programming contests in their forum. About languages used for making the entries! You will discover that a wide range of programming languages was used by the participants!
In the 2nd contest:

In the 3rd contest:
https://www.syntaxbomb.com/index.php/topic,4000.0.html
In the 4th contest:
https://www.syntaxbomb.com/index.php/topic,4451.0.html
In the 5th contest:

In the 6th contest:

However, there is no entry made in FreeBASIC. Really? Yes but why? Where are the talented FreeBASIC game programmers?
I am disappointed.
Re: Programming game competition! (Christmas theme!)
My best guess: Some have moved to other languages. In general the average FreeBASIC programmer has aged, and less interested in games? (Or less time). Ok, I see.
Many forum members decided to participate the "A Love Letter To FreeBASIC" competition. In conclusion, there are still a lot of FreeBASIC users like to join FreeBASIC's programming competition! (but not the competitions outside the FreeBASIC community.)

Yes, but also many seem to do this for the last time (as a gift to freebasic and to symbolically end a ~decade of freebasic), including the competition organizer. I am curious how many actually submit a game, including myself :-)song wrote:Many forum members decided to participate the "A Love Letter To FreeBASIC" competition. Why do those participants do this for the last time? I don't understand. They should continue to develop computer games in FreeBASIC for various
contests. There is a very interesting example, BBC BASIC! BBC BASIC is an ancient general purpose BASIC programming language. However, in the 2nd
contest, the 4th contest and the 6th contest, the 1st place winners are the entries made in BBC BASIC. It seems that BBC BASIC users are full of
passion and energy.

The concept of the game mentioned by you is quite nice.
The SyntaxBomb contest needs adventure game. Perhaps Snowball Struggle is not in this category.
