Jafile, the Filehost (new version of the FreeFile service)

Post by KristopherWindsor »

You may remember my old file hosting service, FreeFile. Jafile is its much improved successor. I started over on the code last summer, and it is finally official (even though it has been up for months).

Jafile is a file host, and people here typically use it for hosting programs, screenshots, and code / pastes. Particularly, Jafile users should never need to touch Mediafire again.
FreeFile had some issues, mainly because anyone could register, so Jafile is only available through invites. (Email me if you want an invite.)

http://jafile.com/

BTW: the site has a REST API. Sir_mud and I are developing apps for it. :D

[Note to former FreeFile users: if you lost your password, or your files disappeared, email me. Note that freefile.kristopherw.us is still up and points to the same files as jafile.com. Check to see if you are registered for Jafile here.]

He was joking via irony. I am schooled in the humanities so as to interpret such things in the correct manner.

@KristopherWindsor

if you upload an avatar an animated gif as jpg it will work.

http://jafile.com/uploads/

is it a feature or a bug in your php code ?

It's a feature. :)
The uploads page is actually part of the old site; I don't link to it from the main site anymore.

I've got the backend of my app(s), a python module that covers the API. I'm working on a command line client using it and then maybe some kind of Android app.

Just for fun, you can now save a message to Jafile through SMS!

The phone number is 650-385-8882, and it doesn't cost any more than a normal text (to California). Visit txtweb.com for more info.

First text "join" (optional).
Then text "@jatxt [username] [password]"
And now you can save messages to text files: "@jatxt [message]"

For each text, you should get an instant reply.
Nice, hmm? :D

Thanks, I registered just now :-)

PS: why do uploaded files go to "some trash" after upload if I have JS off or unavailable ? Everything else works without JS too.

How do you know which of the invites 1..5 are used up and which are not? I'd like to join, but ... am I too late?

Here's some more invites. When you click on an invite, you'll see a message indicating whether it's been used or not.

1
2
3
4
5

@DOS386: you need to specify a file name. If you don't specify one, it will be ".txt," but the link to it in the results box will be an empty string.
