Is FreeBasic still continued to develop?

Post by Schrubber »

Hy,

it looks as if not, latest version 0.20 beta of 10.08.2008?

not to sound harsh but - SEARCH THE FORUM.

there are at least 20 topics in various forms about this.

Just because there is no release doesn't mean its dead. look on svn you will find more updates there. or get a nighly build. there is no need to have a frantic release every week just to satisfy people like you.

If you are unhappy about something you are more than welcome to contribute. It is open source project and developed by volunteers. Sure the pace has dwindled down a bit but that's no reason to flag the project as "dead"

as long as there are people using it its not dead.

even DOS is alive ya know!

wow wow!

That was just a question!

No one needs every week a new version but is not a week 08.08 until 12.09.

Eliminate errors is simply 'just' care and no development.

just because some still use DOS, DOS is dead and buried!

That was a bit harsh, VonGodric.

Schrubber: There is no development, as such. Only bug fixes. There are no developers left and while the community is still here, FreeBASIC development has halted.

Only bug fixes.
The addition of naked functions was not a bug fix.

The addition of vectorized optimizations was not a bug fix.

Bryans vectorizer was added December 08/Jan 09, and naked functions somewhere around Nov 08. So, the last "feature" updates were a year ago.

Schrubber - sorry if I sounded harsh. Don't want to sound off putting. The development is stalled / slow. but there are still users of the language.

Anyway welcome to the forum!

A lot of people are confused with the date of the last release. An open source software without a release for more than a year seems to be dead. When I have downloaded FB, I thought it was already dead until I joined the forum.
I think the developers should give a release, like 0.20.1 or 0.21.0, even though there are not a lot of changes but bug fixes.

Thanks to Imortis, there is a sticky at the top of the DOS and Windows forums where you can get a more or less recent SVN build.

Let me remind you:
v1ctor wrote:i restarted working on the C emitter last weekend, and will continue to do so on the next ones. It's in a branch, until it's up to the task to rebuild FBC.
v1ctor, are you there?
