Wow. This is so cool

Post by j8h9 »

I found this tool today and gawd this brings back memories of all the fun I had years ago writing silly text based rpg games. I wish I still had that source code. I have been looking for a tool that can be compiled and shared. VB6 was the last dev software and .net is grossly overbloated.

Hooray or FreeBasic

I've been studying old baseball strategy board games and might am considering a simple ASCII game. Some ideas.

- Use chooses games from the 2006 schedule
- Player stats are loaded (makes batters realistic)
- game player can steal bases, suicide squeeze plays, etc.
- game results are saved so player can relaunch and view standings

Where do I start? Any more ideas? Greetings to all.

Hi j8h9, and welcome in the community!

I don't know the first thing about baseball, so I'll leave that to someone else.

cheers, Michael

what about additional anmals that kill players
what about players can shoot others with guns
o_O

Some ideas :

- The player characteristics could increase, and with the levels could appear special competences (eg : special movements)
- The player could buy some special balls or bats (fire, bombs, etc..)

In fact it will depend of what you want : realistic or arcade/funny (yeah arcade and ASCII sound a bit weird :p) ?

I can't help more since I don't know anything about baseball :s

And welcome to the marvelous world of FreeBasic :D

(Sorry for english)

Welcome!

A good place to start is the FreeBASIC Wiki. We have a pretty good wiki.

We don't have a large library of tutorials, but we have a ton of code posted around the forums. If you ever have a question about a certain coding topic, check the wiki then do a forum search. If all else fails, create a thread.

stealing intellectual property is absolutely moral.
I wish someone would steal the patents of various medicines and give it to the third world. that would be a nice blow against imperialism.

oh, and that reminds me of this good old hoax:

Drug companies license generics in developing nations at very cheap or free rates. They're not dumb, they know they won't make any money trying to sell them at the same prices there.

I would include a draft, so you could manage your team over several seasons. You could also include injuries and free agents that can leave or join your team depending on how much you pay them.

people doesn't seem to afford it whatsoever. there's daily reports of people dying en masse of simple and 'harmless' deceases which can easily be cured with stuff that's concidered to be cheap. :/

This is getting way off topic. Please keep your posts relevant to Freebasic.
