Very nice. Reminds me of my efforts with 2D and isometric voxel tank demos. Clearly you aren't using fbgfx? I noticed the enemy saucer tanks seemed a bit confused so I assume you will be adding some AI to make their behaviors a bit more convincing.

It's OpenGL. But I'm using some fbgfx to handle images before sending them to the GPU.
Every object has 2 images for each frame. One is for color and the other is a depth map.
The images get converted to arrays of colors, vertices and normals. They get optimized, and then they are uploaded as textureless VBOs.
AI is not actually implemented yet. Enemy movement is still random.
