It's worse than you think here. We're not dealing directly with the verb "to stick", but "to sticky", which derives from the concept of a "sticky" (i.e. A sticky thread). The adjective is of course derived from the verb "to stick".
So, "stickying" is a noun that has been turned into a verb (a technique that's frowned upon in formal language, and often humourously called "verbing":)
But not only that: used in this context, it's a verb derived from a noun, derived from an adjective, derived from a verb!
