FBIde - still alive
FBIde - still alive
Hey guys,
just wanted to update that I am still very much alive and have been very busy with FBIde project lately. It's not yet finished... but it's coming along nicely.
I post here some screen shots depicting new syntax highlighting muscles.
Btw styles are defined using fully valid CSS notation. CSS file used: http://fbide.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc ... iew=markup
#proprocessor line continuation with _ character. Notice how invalid escape sequence inside the string got a small red indicator under it. (\o)
Assembly code with custom background colour for fonts (can be transparent as seen on other pictures)
Highlight metacommands, escape codes in strings, multiline nested comment blocks, macro and preprocessor hightlighting. A BIG font
Your feedback and thoughts are highly appreciated :P

@VonGodric
Thank you for all your work. Really.
But, man, the latest release of fbide, 0460, is 3 years old. How long do you want us to wait for some sign of life. If this project really is active, after 3 years of nothing, maybe you could release something. Perhaps just a 04601 beta version.
That would be more interesting than telling us it's "alive." After 3 years.
I hope I haven't offended you, I do very much appreciate your efforts.

Hello VonGodric,
Thanks for the news this sounds really great, I still find myself using FBIde the most because of its ease of use, it pops up immediately on my machine no loading waits, I don't have to set up a project of any description and I don't even have to save a file I can just play what I typed.
Excellent for running snipets of code and posts from the forum. Its just Bish Bash Bosh, job done.

@Frank Dodd:
You dont need to save files to compile in FBEdit either. There should be a small button beside the "Choose Compile Option" box... i swear there used to be a button with Three circles which did "quick run" like Fbide.. dunno what happened to it.. anyways that doesn't matter since i just use the "shift + ctrl + f5" shortcut key
@VonGodric:
The Ide is looking great and i like Css styling! ;)

Thanks guys.
As for releasing "something" I can give a link to never finished (but that circulates around still) 0.4.7 ( http://fbide.freebasic.net/File/FBide%200.4.7.rar )
The problems with that it has some features never finished. Like support for projects - and it works except few problems. You can't change project type later (except manually editing project file) and can't turn off Auto-fill of code blocks (type IF THEN and it will add END IF for you) and has some trouble with non-English languages. Hence the reason I have never "officially" released it.
Sadly after that I lost all the source code of >0.4.4 and for some reason I never committed anything to CVS. That was a blow and for a while I thought to quit the project all together.
But I myself am not satisfied with FBIde any more and need a more sophisticated tool. Hence I have pulled myself together and started rewriting entire project from scratch. With some new goals and major ideas. So sorry guys it has been so long. But hopefully wait will be worth it.
I don't want to set strict deadlines - but I do want to have a plan. Right now If all goes well I think I will have a "technology preview" version somewhere in February. And perhaps first real release at the end of March/beginning on April.
Sorry I know it's months away... but there is still a LOT to do. I might release testing versions from time to time though. But I promise I'll keep everyone updated.
Major things todo:
- finish highlighting lexer (I got some great ideas to implement that will just make FB code lool fab in it!)
- Add project support and management (don't worry one-click-run will remain. But will be possible to configure it and set up more quick run contexts)
- GDB integration
- compiler integration
After these are done I'll have the first release. Note here that most of the functionality is added via plugins. In the screen shots above the very FB editor itself (with syntax lexer) is actually a plugin. IDE only manages the TAB :D
For those who just can't wait for a sneak peak I post a current snapshot.
THIS IS STILL A WIP AND IS NOT SUITED FOR ACTUAL USE. THIS IS ONLY MEANT AS A PREVIEW AND IS PRE-ALPHA STATE.
Use at your own risk
