Freebasic V. Visual basic (general thoughts welcome)

Postby toneboy » Sep 20, 2008 14:00

I cant ever see myself coding as anything more than a hobby now school is over, and freebasic is the be all end all as far as i'm concerned. I cant imagine being able to do anything in c++ that i couldnt in FB, but with visual basic's objects for menu's etc. is there anything you can do in FB to save time on making things like these?

Your posts are in the wrong forum. This forum is for projects, they'll probably move you.

Check of Kristopher Windsor's iGUI, and I believe that there's a winGUI availble for download somewhere on this very site.

As for color definitions, try:

umm... how about inheritance? I'm not dissing FB I know the devs are working hard on adding features but as of right now that statement is very very wrong.

And yeah, this topic will get moved.

And yeah, it would be cool if making GUI programs is easier in FB. 'Cuz let's face it WinAPI blows.

Damn it, I always muck up posting, i dont mind at all if they move it. Sorry.

Anyway (for the colour I like: http://freefile.kristopherw.us/uploads/ ... ortool.zip)

Right, i reasearched inheritance and it seemed really cool once i got my head around it...I think :-|
Is there any reason FB cant have something like that?

I got a bunch of stuff from http://files.kristopherw.us/igui/
and i look forward with experimenting with it.

templates are a really awesome feature of c++ also. but it looks like something that would be really really hard to implement.

Yes i agree..
it'd be great to have templates in FB
Meanwhile, we've to use hack-coded macros :P

I've been programming in VB for a long time. Trying to do this and that, but I found their were a lot of limitations especially with games and graphics. I used a lot of windows API stuff but still it was lacking. I would get so far then things would really slow down.

FB is more what programming should be. It forces you to write smarter code. It's really fast too. :)

Fast is kind of relative, ever compared some heavy looped code ran in FB and VB?

Does FB's exe outperform that huge Visual framework?

Would be interesting to know to choose our coding environment,
unfortunatly everything jobwise in Belgium is 90+% .NET based
so I guess it will be a pure hobby thing or when you are selling
self created applications for a living then it doesn't really matter.
