I'm getting "virus protection" from Vipre Internet every time I try to run a compiled program.
Scans do not pick up a problem with FreeBasic, so I think it's a false positive.
Anybody?

Re: False virus hit on compiled programs
Of course it is. Vipre Internet does not do particularly well when reviewed and is rarely reviewed in the first place as most reviews limit themselves to the top ten or so rankings. I would cut my losses and switch. ESET usually does well in reviews and I have been using it for some years: ESET NOD32 Antivirusso I think it's a false positive

No help with the commercial.
I was wondering if anyone else had a problem with their virus protection,
or
is it possible that the compiler is spitting out malware???

Re: False virus hit on compiled programs
Win 10
Avira antivirus
I had to make exceptions for
fbc.exe
fbidetemp.exe (I use fbide, fbidetemp.exe is the quick run .exe)
gcc.exe
Otherwise Avira scans these files before they are run.
Up to a minute per scan, and on rare occasions (If I use winapi procedures) Avira reports a virus and quarantines the .exe.

Of course, it is. I reckon that the chance is about the same as been struck by lightning 100 times in five seconds.cavelamb wrote:is it possible that the compiler is spitting out malware???
Upload the file that Vipre Internet is highlighting to VirusTotal. It is a free service and no registration is required. They scan the file using, currently, 67 anti-virus products including Vipre Internet, Avira, Kaspersky and so on.
By the way, there is nothing stopping you from contacting Vipre Internet. Over the years I have done this twice with Malwarebytes and they issued corrected 'databases' on both occasions, and very quickly.

Re: False virus hit on compiled programs
ESET does as well on a fresh compile and run - takes less than a couple of seconds. Running the exe from my file manager and there is no delay.dodicat wrote:Otherwise Avira scans these files before they are run.
Re: False virus hit on compiled programs
All is well in FreeBasic now.
I corrected Firewall settings.
It works now A-Ok.
