Code: Select all

C:\Program Files\FreeBASIC>fbc  examples\misc\hello.bas
C:\PROGRA~1\FREEBA~1\bin\win32\ld.exe:
cannot open output file examples\misc\hello.exe: Permission denied

C:\Program Files\FreeBASIC>attrib examples\misc
             C:\Program Files\FreeBASIC\examples\misc

C:\Program Files\FreeBASIC>

Now what?

You have a copy of your program still in memory, usually caused by compiling with -s gui and not creating a screen. Start TaskMgr and kill the process named the same as your program.

Nothing of this. FreeBasic was the only application running. The 'mistake' I made was installing everything in the 'Program Files' directory. It appears that only Administrator has write permission there in Vista.

The solution is simple: Log on as Administrator.

Thanks for your answer, though

And another solution would be copying the freebasic folder somewhere else.

Thay's what I did. Does not work well. You get a message that Freebasic was not installed correct. Re-install is a better alternative.
