I am a self-confessed Windows head and spend a fair amount of time reading the APIs at MSDN.

However, if we are talking reliability Linux leaves Windows standing: 9 Ways Linux Is Taking Over the World Not only that "every one of the fastest computers in the world runs on Linux".

utf8 support in the terminal is also being worked on.
I've never used the \\.\ escapes, where do you need them?
Note that windows paths have many kinds of \\ escapes at the beginning of the path. The most wellknown is the unc path (\\server\share), but access to devices (\??\ or \\?\device\, and this one are wellknown too. See e.g. https://stackoverflow.com/questions/230 ... efixes-and and MSDN

Paths over the win32 (260 char) limit. The NT limit after escaping with \\.\ is iirc 8192 chars.
