Back in '82 I needed to come up with an alarm code and thought it unwise to use my date of birth, 1947, so I subtracted my paternal grandfather's age at the time, 88, and got 1859. I left the property in '87 and the alarm code was changed. My grandfather died in '89 at the ripe old age 95.jj2007 wrote:I was convinced that 1859 was your year of birth ;-)
Why did you choose FreeBASIC?

FreeBasic is only for "young-old" men? ;-)
Maybe, the BASIC is old, it has little future, it is something that we must recognize, whether we like it or not, it is something "from the past". :-(

If you are collection ages, here are previous topics: [offtopic]I'm old :-) (2014) and How old are you ? (2011). I hope that all are still healthy and alive.
What I wonder is, has there ever been a female member in the 15 years (-1 day) that the forum exists?
About BASIC, maybe some day the youth decides that watching youtube and playing video-games is a waste of time and they want to build something themselves in a language that looks simple. Who knows.

Re: Why did you choose FreeBASIC?
I first looked at BASIC in '73 when I was coding in Algol 60. My initial thought was "Oh dear, I really don't think so." BASIC first appeared just over 56 years ago and it is still here albeit very different to the early days. How long it keeps chugging away is anyone's guess.

Because FB is most compatible with vb6.
Re: Why did you choose FreeBASIC?
This community is cosy. That is what I can't found on other programming community.
Thank you all but I think I will not back coding. I just played with QB64 a bit but my eyes really hurts. So, bye.
p/s: I'm much younger than you, it's a shame that my health is that bad! I'm just 23. Perhaps because I wasted it too much.

Re: Why did you choose FreeBASIC?
It is possible to pick a custom font in qb64, but the interface for doing so is primitive, requiring you to type the full path to the ttf file. But yes on a modern high resolution display, the old-school VGA font can be quite small (especially at 4K!).
Re: Why did you choose FreeBASIC?
I wanted to develop games using GPU rendering (OpenGL) and a familiar programming language.
