Windows 10 updates
Re: Windows 10 updates
I just let it update itself now.
What the heck, I have grey hairs a plenty anyway, don't need any more.
I probably have the latest Creators ensconsed, good luck to it I say.
I don't have anything important on this computer, just as well eh!

Re: Windows 10 updates
I reformatted a system today with the SCU .iso, downloaded and installed all the updates/drivers etc., and it runs mostly fine. But when clicking a link from an "external" application (so not inside a browser) like E-Mail program, nothing happens. Then after 60 or so seconds, suddenly the link opens... once it gave me BSOD.
Screw Windows :/

Re: Windows 10 updates
After doing a lot of cleanup operations before the downloading, the Windows update finally succeeded (16299.402) !
But I'm still unable to identify a sequence (even long) that works for sure ?
I only remarked that as long as there is not the term "Install" added in the main menu "Start / Stop", the reboot will go not successful for installation even if the installation seem to take place a bit during the restart.
11 updates failed before success (from the update history) !

Re: Windows 10 updates
Well done, fxm.
Two major updates ago my automatic updates ceased. I spent days trying one 'solution' after another to no avail. I was still getting updates by checking the Microsoft website each weekend, downloading the updates and installed them manually. What a joke! At the last major update my automatic updates were restored, along with my sanity. <smile>
You will be pleased to learn that 16299.402 now allows group policy passwords up to 20 characters as opposed to 14. No need to get any more RAM then. <laugh>

Re: Windows 10 updates
Windows 10 April 2018 Update will be available for manual download tomorrow - April 30. It will get pushed automatically from May 8.
I have paused my updates until June 2, by which time, hopefully, I will have allowed it in.

Where do you find all this information?
Re: Windows 10 updates
Every 2nd Tuesday (each month) is, what Microsoft calls: *Patch-Day*.fxm wrote:Where do you find all this information?
We in Europe, usually *get it* on Wednesday ...
Re: Windows 10 updates
My question was precisely on this sentence (

Re: Windows 10 updates
Sorry, but your question was, very unspecific and, imprecise ...
My answer thus focussed, on the first part, of the sentence!

The art of communicating is the ability to read between the lines and get it right very much more often that not. The more pedantic someone is the less likely they can read between the lines to the point where they cannot read anything between the lines.
@fxm
I knew exactly what you meant.
I first saw the info on 'The Verge' and is now being reported in several places.
And was, therefore, taken out of context and got wrong. The '-- and --' has been subsequently added.MrSwiss wrote:My answer thus focussed, on the first part, of the sentence!

I would really like to see, just once, you mr. deltarho[], to read between the lines: in German!

Re: Windows 10 updates
It has nothing to do with language but all to do with intuition.MrSwiss wrote:I would really like to see, just once, you mr. deltarho[], to read between the lines: in German!
I am fortunate in that respect, being an INTP in Jungian typology, who introvert thinking and extravert intuition. The latter has caused me issues over the years but, for the most part, has held me in particularly good stead.
I take the view that is is a worthwhile exercise for everyone to take the time and get a Myers–Briggs Type Indicator. It is very accurate. It is good to get confirmation of our strengths but, more importantly, it is very useful to know where our weaknesses lie. When it comes to making judgements based upon feelings I am a disaster area. I am mindful of that and have to consider them 'manually' because I do not take other people's feelings into account naturally.
Go here and take a test - you may be in for a shock! By that I mean you may be surprised how accurate it is. I failed a job interview some years ago as a personality test revealed that I would not be a good team member. I already knew that. The company told me that they did have people who were not good at being team members and were given jobs because of that. The vacancy I applied for required someone who would be a good team member so I was not offered a job.
I would really like to know what your assessment is. If you read up on what INTPs are like and I read up on what your assessment is then you and I may get on better. That would be worthwhile because you and I have not been in a very good place for sometime.
We don't have to do this publicly.

You all have the patience of continental drift.
The first time this happened to me is when I abandoned Windows. I never wanted W10 anyway.
If you really want a high-quality, secure update, reinstall Windows 8 and turn off updates.
lol, I am ENFP.
