time to say goodbye

Post by D.J.Peters »

FreeBASIC is a boat without a captain.
BASIC is for beginners and this is OK
but too much idiots and trolls here
and the moderators are blind or sleeping.

How ever 12 years are enough.

goodbye !

Ouch, what a sad situation.
At least: Thanks for all the help, code and especially the many library interfaces.
Which language or platform do you turn to? I cannot image you will stop coding.

I am sad to hear that... you have been one of the best contributors I have seen, around here. Thank you for the time you gave us.

I just ask you to reconsider your choice, and wait a moment, before doing that. What has disappointed you, exactly?

This is not the time for you to leave the forum D.J.Peters.
...
You and I don't get along I know.
But you are an experienced coder, I just mess around.
This is probably why.
...

FreeBASIC cannot loose 12 years dedication and knowledge.
The Captain AND and an experienced officer going is too much.
Too many have lost interest already.
Please reconsider.
Or the morale will plummet further.

It's a pity to see you leaving as you've contributed so many valuable additions to the FreeBasic ecosystem that make FB both mightier and easier to use. Although BASIC was intended for beginners once, FreeBasic is definitly not for beginners only. I would even say that (Free)BASIC is not for beginners anymore because systems have changed but the language hasn't and thus is missing abstraction layers commonly used in today's development tools. I'm also sure that - despite some idiots, who you'll find everywhere - quite some nice, courageous people are here. Only for the moderators part unfortunately I've to agree that most have left FB years ago and are inactive (yet there are a few exceptions).
I wish you all the best and maybe you'll reconsider you decision after some time ;-)

I echo the sentiments stated above. You bring so much to this site.

Just take a LOA (Leave of Absence), come back whenever you wish. You will be always welcome.

Goodbye, Joshy. It was a privilege to be able to talk to you. I'll certainly miss you (as much as I miss Rel, syn9 and Eric Cowles), you've been an inspiration for many members including myself, as well as simply being awesome ;)

Wish you the best,
Paul

This is not true.
Please link to what you think should have been moderated.
I went back through your posts and I can't find anything anybody posted with you or about you worthy of removal.
This forum is quite friendly almost always and when it is not the offenses are so minor that you would have to be the thinnest of skinned person to be upset.
The forum is also moderated. Do you not note the total lack of spam here? I have seen a spam posted and then within a few minutes removed.

D.J., your contributions speak for themselves, but this is nonsense.

Don't let pointless discussions spoil your programming fun. The FreeBASIC compiler is quite powerful and efficient, not seen with most other BASIC like languages. As far as I'm concerned, FB isn't dead or dying. But it's up to the users to keep it alive and put their energy in something constructive.

It's true that trolls often drive people away from community discussion forums such as this, but it bothers me when people feel the need to make a public statement before going off in a huff, and especially without calling out the individuals who were the apparent trolls (perhaps a private message first).

Some may find my comments trollish. They certainly aren't intended that way, but some might take them that way. I'd rather someone message me about it than leave all bothered.
