Hi guys. Long time since last...

Postby Jocke The Beast » Dec 05, 2008 13:31

Hi. Hope you guys are doing well. I've been away a long time now from the "scene" and I don't think I'll return...well not returnas a programmer at least...more a voyager trying and playing you guys games :)

Reason? Well, real-life matters and other priorities in life...

So what do I do nowadays...besides working I play some LBP on my Ps3 and some Battlefield 2 on my Pc. I still roam the internet playing roguelikes... Nethack and the original Rogue I still adore.

Keep the spirit up guys!

Ps. Who's still here and who have left the scene? Rel, Nek, Jofers?

rel sorta left. He does make these odd appearances here and then, and is probably available if you email him. But beside that, no real community activity from him.

Nek is similar to rel in this way, making only brief appearances in the community, really living on its edge. He rescently released the first chapter of Two Lords and promised to release the full version around February of 2009, and this is where his FB activity is currently centered around.

Jofers. I don't know. From the top of my head, I would say he left.

Pete is on a trip around the world, but is still releasing QBE with gaps of several months between issues while on this trip.

Deleter. I see him in the chatroom, but no (public) FB projects from him.

syn9 is currently one of our most prolific game developers, and you can check his Prompt Critical and brand new Gorevania: http://syn9.thingie.net/, http://www.freebasic.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12792

Two Croats (I'm not one of them) under label Wooden Fisherman are currently running an interesting "one FB game per week" project on this website: http://wf-games.blogspot.com/

Z!re is slowly developing his MMORTS: http://games.freebasic.net/forum/index.php?topic=175.0

Some cool things there, but still too ALPHA by my opinion.

Kristopher Windsor is developing a cool looking breakout game entitled Ultrabreaker.

Vincent DeCampo had a nice series of remakes.

What else?

Well, check http://games.freebasic.net and browse through several latest news.

I appreciate anyone willing to seriously play FB games (and maybe review them).

See you around.

Great to hear from ya, Jocke! I'm still around and trolling. I don't have time for much FB dev b/c I'm knee deep in leading an open source e-commerce project called Ubercart (http://www.ubercart.org) for the Drupal CMS (http://drupal.org). I still love Rogue-likes, though... ADOM was the first app I downloaded when I picked up a MacBook for doing web development. I was also able to bring cha0s on to work Ubercart with us, so we're looking forward to seeing where things go.

I've been on your side of the Atlantic a couple times recently... went to a Drupalcon in Barcelona (incredible) and another in Szeged, Hungary (also a great time... celebrated my 1st anniversary beforehand in Budapest). Maybe I can convince you to hit up the next European conference. ; ) (It's looking like Maastricht.)

Meh... other news... I think I actually finished a couple of games in the last few years. I got married, no kids yet. Livin' in a very cold house right now but enjoying it. Oh... and I still love FB. I just don't have time. :-/

You can find my blog at http://www.bywombats.com if you're interested and a near finished FB project site at http://tracker.freebasic.net.

Yeah, unfortunately that's what happens if you stop working out. Your muscle tends to turn to fat and migrate.

All these "fat cop" posts are giving me an amazing idea for a reality TV show.

I am in the middle of transitioning my degree from MS to PhD to hopefully ride out the economy. My guess is around 2 years left if I finish my course work this semester.

I'm still programming, just not as much "me time" programming for things like BASIC. I am trying a few different ideas, most of which are on Pip's forum.
