Is FreeBasic original?

Post by angros47 »

I found this (hoping that nobody already posted it):
http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/ ... eebas.html

It seems to be an old page of an abandoned project.... how sad to see a dead freebasic.

I've seen something like this before. I believe v1ctor knew of a dead project also called FreeBASIC before starting this one, but I don't think the real FB is based off that one (besides maybe the fact that it compiles QB code).

AFAIK V1c was going to call his compiler OpenBasic, then he saw a dozen of dead project with the same name, and so chose the name Freebasic.

That project, or maybe another one, is also listed here:

It's another one.... so we already have 3 freebasic :-0

Anyway, the SmallBASIC is in a worst situation, now that Microsoft made a compiler for kids named Small Basic (a mix between gwbasic and logo)

At least FB will never have this problem (can you imagine Microsoft using the word "free" in a product's name?)
