It blew me away!

It's true that it is a shame that we not only hurt our eyes by over consumption of hot white blank screens, but also simply over consume energy. I mean collectively. There should be a black screen day in the world, just to get a measure of what difference it makes on any of those 2 domains. Ok... not really black, just darker...

It's usually not true that a black/darker screen saves energy compared to a white screen (except if you turn it off completely ;-) or still use an old CRT monitor rather than a LCD monitor).
But if it's easier on your eyes that's already a very good reason to use it.

I used to have a friend with a modern tv screen (a pioneer not to cite the brand). I used also to play with the menu and a function was named energy saver or something like this. As far as I remember, when activated the screen turned quite grey in comparison to its others modes. Was it lcd I don't know, but not a crt for sure.
