Re: Windows 11
I am not talking about a virus, I am talking about malware, specifically bots. Anyway, we are off-topic now.

Re: Windows 11
I just enabled secure booting in the BIOS and now I can run Windows 11 OK, but if you have backup software like Todo Backup or AOME| Backupper you will not be able to boot from a WinPE usb stick plus the backup software, you will have to disable Secure Boot first. Although I am on Windows 10 my mac...

Re: Windows 11
That is the same conclusion that I came to.
Yes.I am wondering if secure booting is disabled in the BIOS would cause the program to report that it's not capable of running win 11

Re: Windows 11
I cannot see 2560 x 1440 being an issue. it doesn't say what exactly is lacking Yes, that is poor. Here is a bit more info: How-To Geek One good thing - one update a year instead of two - many pundits have been asking for that for a while now. I suspect that many PCs will not run Windows 11 forcing ...

Re: Why No Avatars ?
I am a fan of emoticons and have quite a few on my website for linking to here. Simple reason: "A picture is worth a thousand words" No one has complained at my using them, so I will continue to do so. The PowerBASIC forum has a pile of them. They also allow signatures. Some are quite clev...

Windows 11
Windows 11 My machine will not run Windows 11.I suspect that it is because I no longer have a graphics card or the integrated graphics is only HD and not Untra HD. However, Windows 10 will continue to be supported until 14 October 2025. From what I have seen of Windows 11 I am more that happy to co...

Re: FreeBASIC 1.08.1 and 1.09.0 Development
Just a quick note. My German friend did a fbc 1.08/gcc 9.4 WinLibs for me. 9.4 was released by gcc about three weeks ago. The binaries for both 32-bit and 64-bit were much larger than any other toolchain that I have looked at over the years. I figured that perhaps there would be a performance boost,...

Re: How to made a 32 bits program with 64 bits FB?
It is worth noting that the 32-bit fbc and the 64-bit fbc emit identical *.c files. I have done it and then used a byte for byte comparison. The 64-bit fbc will not work on a 32-bit machine as no other 64-bit binary will. Passing -arch 486 on the command line will not work because 64-bit fbc will no...

Re: A brain teaser
Sattolo introduced his variation in 1986 In fact, Sattolo is a lady - Sandra Sattolo. Her paper is "An algorithm to generate a random cyclic permutation" published 30 May 1986 in 'Information Processing Letters' by Elsevier B.V. It is copyrighted and requires rights to read it. However, i...

Re: A brain teaser
@dodicat Um, not sure what you are trying to prove. Sattolo introduced his variation in 1986, 48 years after Fisher-Yates hit the streets. Many websites explain Sattolo's algorithm, and some compare it with the Knuth shuffle. However, none of them give any reason to employ Sattolo rather than Knuth....

Re: A brain teaser
@dodicat If we change fxm's code to Swap p->b(i), p->b(Int(rnd_range(i +1 ,8))) we also get zero repeats. That is not a Knuth shuffle - it is Sattolo's algorithm. It introduces a bias where no element can ever end up in its original position. In other words, it will not produce each possible permuta...

Re: Oh no, not another PRNG
It seems that there may be an issue with the principle employed in ShuffleUlongint; according to coderJeff. dodicat proposed another method using a Union. The consensus is that there is no issue with that. fxm rewrote dodicat's code, making it a little more compact. I have used fxm's code in a new v...

Re: A brain teaser
It seems uncertain that with coderJeff's comment "a byref ulongint (aka ulongint ptr) referenced through a ubyte ptr" whether that causes an issue or not. However, there is no issue with the union method, so expediency suggests that the union method should be preferred. fxm's union code re...

Re: A brain teaser
@dodicat Swap Cast(uByte Ptr,@x)[i], Cast(uByte Ptr,@x)[iRange((i+1),(sizeof(x)-1))]) is not a Knuth shuffle. The element i should be allowed to shuffle with itself. So, we should use 'iRange((i),' and not 'iRange((i+1),'. This has been subject to much discussion since the Fisher-Yates shuffle was i...

That is great news, fxm, thanks for that.
