Which seems to be where most dreams of an epic space game begin.

Your project is impressive. I advise you run with it.

Re: Full Screen (Alt+Enter) Problem?

Since one can never know what monitor resolutions the end user has, it is essential to learn ScreenList as well as ScreenRes so as to have something compatible ready. Of course that doesn't mean one needs to support ALL resolutions; I usually have a set minimum requirement (based on what is needed t...

Re: SOS v1.0 - New Game!

Mihail_B, DCrawshawJr: Thanks for the good reviews!

Lachie: No, but I could give hints.

1. There's two ways to get the Pong game, one at startup and one in the menu screen.
2. Doodle mode has a secret Conway's Game of Life button. You access Doodle mode from the menu screen.

Re: Potential Community Projects

I'd like to see triple precision and a reorganization of Randomize to use it instead of Double. (Am I mad? Possibly, but I can see a need for more than 4 billion random seeds in procedural content.) Along similar lines, making use of Long vs. LongInt to where LongInt is even longer, but that would c...

Re: SOS v1.0 - New Game!

Sorry about the sound not being up to your usual snuff. This is my first FMOD game, and it really shows.

I suppose I could lower the sfx volume and add a streamed music track. Now I have to compose something. :) (It's all right, I need to compose a long funky track for a war game anyway.)

Re: Epic Space Game

I will be astonished if/when you accomplish what you have set out to create here. <--Has worked on a turn-based space game for the last four years and may never get around to finishing it. (Hence why it was not announced in FB forums.) As your game sounds more vast and elaborate than mine, you have ...

Re: RotateGame

There was a rotate game similar to this in Compute! Magazine in the 1980s, except you had to match up one square with another, and it was in colors instead of numbers.

Re: BASIC Gaming issue #5 is out!

Quite the excellent intermag as always. Wish I had more time to keep track of new developments while I'm developing my epic game. Fortunately, your publication helps summarize major Basic gaming news events. Still won't get to play any of the new stuff though. I'm a bit dismayed at the new game call...

Re: Basic Gaming issue #5, calling for submissions

Though I adore Basic Gaming, I understand about the difficulty in getting enough content into an issue. I wouldn't mind if you changed it into a blog or series of articles. Right now, for example, the 7DRL is going on. Probably not going to have many entries in FB this year though. http://www.roguet...

Re: XO ( 5 in rows)

This game is named Go-Moku in Japan and Pente in the West, although the rules are slightly different in Go-Moku (for example, the 5 in a row must be no more than 5, not placing a middle piece to get six) than Pente (allowing certain captures). Also, the board is 19x19, not 20x20. But likely that's a...

Custom Fonts With Foreground/Background Colors

A tutorial by Destructosoft --------------------------- Last modified 20120209 Any Draw String type font, in PNG/BMP/TGA format, can be changed to a PNG which will allow it to be drawn with any foreground and background color just like with the built-in FB font. Re: 1 Billion digit prime

Some years ago I ran a GIMPS program for a couple months. Nothing came of it, and it was interfering with my AFK vending in Ragnarok Online anyway. Later, I remember running a separate computer to try to find a factor for F14 (the 14th Fermat number). Months went by, then I found out someone else ha...

Re: DM legend of zelda engine

It looks great, although the text on that first screenshot is annoying. (Reminds me of the Apple II color fringes on text.) I would understand if you had to make the game use large pixels, but I don't think you should restrict the legibility of the text the same way, unless that's how your graphics ...
