Re: Proper Chess Engine with networked CPUs & LAN play

nice stuff, roland, and nice idea for negative values on black pieces
when i wrote my chess game, i just used shift mask (3 or 4 bits, i dont remember)

why do you have such a big board? you only need 64 units: as byte board(63)
you also multiply with 10 for each line, am i missing something?

Re: Transform a picture

perspective needs matrices which means 3d (depth) this is one of those "if you have to ask, you need to start at the beginning"-questions scene-wise, you'll just have a table model, and some card quads on top of it, and the camera will decide the view itself best to let the GPU handle thes...

Re: Procedural block world project

Is the server down? Edit: Never mind. I had to reset my starting position for some reason. When I did that it worked again. Edit 2: Seems like the world have lost a lot of data. if you check your logs, it will probably have alot of "inetq buffer exceeded" which means no data is lost, the ...

Re: #include bi files , correct usage ?

Gonzo I have probably posted more than most on this forum on matrices. I use vectors liberally in my little doodles. You seem a bit liberal with the keyboard. i didn't say you didn't know "anything", it was a general statement that any programmer should know these things and marcov, i gue...

Re: Compressor alternative

i decided to go with 1x_999 even though it has a very high compression time
the decompression time was almost the same and the filesizes were chopped in half, which is almost unheard of =)

Compressor alternative

I need a better alternative to LZO (1x) as compressor I know there is potential for reducing the data in other ways, but that's extremely complicated, and it's time intensive the compression time doesn't matter, decompression time is somewhat important LZO has compressed the data substantially, but ...

Re: Abstract/Virtual destructor/method behaviour

doesn't really belong in "requests", its more a todo list to get a feature complete object oriented system in the compiler without it, many will stick to using simple classes because you can't rely on the object-oriented end getting the main features of OO in and working in the compiler is...

Re: Looking for some sort of compression?

this nifty site has all the basics: http://hbfs.wordpress.com/2009/04/14/ad-hoc-compression-methods-rle/ your job to transform it into code, as a learning process :) note that no one in this day / age bothers with compression at bit-level unless it's necessary for sprites and images, compressing byt...

Re: #include bi files , correct usage ?

dodicat, working with logic and bit operations (including bit masking) is supposed to be a given for programming you have a machine that works on 2 bits, and imo. 0xFF is the most widely known hexadecimal there is, except perhaps 0x0 :P so yes, you are supposed to know, in fact so well that you shou...

Re: #include bi files , correct usage ?

The cost of the dim as integer element = rnd * 3333 is non existent. Its readability is also more clear to other programmers than yourself, but I agree with the &hFF. It's not uncommon for programmers to spam variables inside for loops, simply because the compiler is expected to make them local ...
