Re: Select Case operating like the C 'switch'

The problem is you're proposing creating a new FB-like language. It certainly wouldn't be FB, and it wouldn't be able to compile FB code if select/case were changed to behave like the C switch statement. Possibly FB could add a switch statement separate from select, but this would simply add comple...

Re: Select Case operating like the C 'switch'

[quote="grindstone"]There's no need for any modification, multiple selections are already possible: I understand that. The project I am working on requires me to do things with a CASE selection, and then perform additional tasks on a subset of the same selection. I can do it with an IF blo...

Select Case operating like the C 'switch'

Question: how difficult would it be to modify Select Case to act like the C 'switch' keyword, allowing multiple selections in the same Select block? I am working on a project that would be easier to implement with a C-like implementation, but I can accomplish the task without it. Thanks in advance!

I agree. I have a good friend here in Ohio who is from Yorkshire, and she is awesome.

Re: strange SLEEP behavior

Thanks, I had done a search for SLEEP on the forum but for some reason missed that thread.

Ok, then, alternate plan in place. While-Wend works fine, sometimes old school is the best school.

strange SLEEP behavior

Hello, I am copying a program to a Linux machine that I originally wrote on a Windows machine. The program is trivial, just experimenting with the FreeBASIC graphics and screen functions. At each step in the experiments, I inserted a SLEEP to allow for progressing through the experiments in an order...

Re: programming for fun

I agree, there is nothing wrong with the skilled trades, the folks who do them are essential and important. My dad grew up in Germany during WWII, so construction trades were just about the only places to find work after the war. His comments came out of what the trade had done to him: working in 90...

Re: programming for fun

Since we are sharing... My dad was a bricklayer; he told me if I ever tried to become a bricklayer, he would break both my legs. I think he was serious. Paid my way through school. Played around with electronics as long as I can remember, got a 2 year degree in electronics engineering, then started ...

Re: Benefits of inline if?

I think it's a style thing more than anything else. For simple tests and assignments, the classic IF form is more familiar to me, probably because I came up in the 70s and 80s. IF x = 3 then a = 4 else a = 5 But IIF accomplishes the same thing in a more modern syntax. a = IIF(x = 3, 4, 5) The IIF sy...

Re: Exit If / Continue If

Seems like a judicious use of If, Do blocks and Select Case might fit the bill: Select Case X Case 1: ... Case 2: ... Case 3: Do 'tests ... If "specific test to step out" then Exit Do Loop While "specific test to start over" Case 4: ... Case Else: ... End Select

Re: FB 1.02 release

I am using Win 7 Pro so they aren't intended to be DOS programs per se, just console mode display. Actually, the only reason I included the .bi was to get the constants for the console colors. I am not using any of the functions. The programs compiled and ran just fine before this release. I have ye...
