Easy installer for Linux

Actually the easy installer exist. But darn it every distributor seems to have his own and this is where the confusions arises. RPM and DEB are binary (EXE) packages and are installed by merely clicking on them. (of course if the supplier omits a depencency or two then its aaagh.. The easy installer...

I am not talking about a overnight take-over, as it is put a steady growth of LINUX users and a corresponding decline of WINDOWS users. However with an "easy installer" this process will most definitely receive a big no massive push forward. There will never be such a thing as a take-over only a mor...

Why do people very seldom come back and say thanks it works. Or what they had to do/change to get it to work. Surely others with similar problems would just love to know the answer.

Installer for Linux

This is not a moan nor complaint. It is an observation. If Linux had an installer similar to MS then MS doesn't stand a chance. (added 13 Aug 2010 for clarity- to retain their big slice of the market) This is the only thing holding Linux back from taking over.(Added 3 Aug - a large portion of the ma...

Quite right. They must be loaded with a /L when starting QB, (QB /L) which loads the default QB.QLB or you can make your own QLB and load it instead. it therefore works basically as a #Include and when compiled it is automatically linked to the EXE. If you leave it out then when compiling and you ha...

Windows 7

Very Nice. In our roundabout way I think we have answered the original question, by saying use Windows 7 but better still go VM. Incidentally I say "Buy" just to show you must pay for what you get even if it's poor after sales support. Mandriva's (latest cutting edge 64 bit) here in SA is about R500...

My daughter has a Hp with Vista pre-installed. Her comment:- She hasn't come across any virus protection program that can remove the biggest virus of them all - VISTA. Another said Vista is the worst of the worst and thanks goodness for WINDOWS 7. Another said Vista is food for bacteria. (I can't us...

Music on DOS

Bobsobol I never make mistakes. The little booboo's you see are deliberate so that others don't feel bad. (LOL LOL). I like to mix the good things from the OS with Other good things to make things smaller and faster. I hate this upto 1 minute wait to load an OS and the need of at least 1.5 to 5Gig j...

How do I use - rundll32 mmsystem.dll - to play music

Thanks Bobsobol I am also checking about every BASIC site I can find to see if there is perhaps a LIB (QLB) for 16 bit wave files. I found a couple but so far its 8 bit 22KHZ Mono. I found the one-line Rundll etc on a BASIC site. Incidentally DOSBOX 0.74 runs on Vista and Windows 7 (32 and 64 bit) a...

rundll32 for music

I like to experiment with things that used to work on QB and WIN98. mmsystem.dll is still distributed with XP PRO so I tried direct inn XP PRO using the RUN command. Windows gives two replies: 1. Says it is not a valid WIN image. 2. Says error loading mmsystem. %1 is not a valid WIN32 application. W...

QB4.5 Reserved word - KEY - to redefine F1 etc

This word doesn't appear in the FBC help file.
It was used to redefine the function keys (F1-F12) which I used as follows:-

KEY 1,"é": KEY 2, "ö"

Does FBC perhaps have something similar/the same ?

screen 12 and 13

I tried the scaling suggestions but could not figure out how to use the LOCATE statements on them. QB4.5 and QB64 ran my progs on a Nvidia Gforce 8600 GT card (the specs indicate it is OpenGL2 compatible) with a 19 inch Samsung LCD display which the OS indicates the minimum res is 800x600, without p...

This looks a lot like the SCREEN 7 , 13 problem for the newer nVidia cards. See Joshy's comment under Beginners. It appears to be the solving of our problem.
