Compiling two *.bas files as one.(QB related)

With QB I could load more than One Module ie two separate *.BAS files which exceeded the QB limitations. The MAK file loaded both the programs into the QB ide. The second program had to have all the same declarations which was taken care of with a *.BI How do I get the same in FB without having to u...

QB on WIN7

@ Marcov

Shh just between us girls : that's the idea isn't it.
Thanks for the info, LINUX Format a while back didn't mention this, when they said that Freedos was once again available after a hiatus of a few years. I downloaded it but haven't tested it yet.

QB on WIN7

Just a query: Did you load QB as follows :- QB /AH /L (to use all high memory, presumably u also used '$DYNAMIC) I also recall that in the DOSBOX config file you can increase the memory to a certain maximum. Dunno if it will be enuf tho. Go to the following site and jump for joy: http://freedos.org ...

QB on WIN 7

I have found that the latest DOSBOX runs on both WIN7 and VISTA. If you go to their compatibility site you will see a large number of 16 bit progs which includes QB4.5 that run in DOSBOX. Fiddling with the config file has given me good results and cycles, sound and the type of screen etc as already ...

INKEY$<> ''

@ j_milton.

I now realize that I must first say which convention I use and give better examples as misunderstandings can so easily be the result.
I am slowly moving over to -lang fblite for the, how can I say it, upgrades to QB ? (The walk before you run principle)

Difference in Main Module between DIM and STATIC

Under the post Using Gosub with FB - fxm raised the following question which was not finalized:- "Just one question about usage of DIM and STATIC : In a main program (not in a SUB or FUNCTION), what is the difference between "DIM Example AS INTEGER" AND "STATIC Example AS INTEGER" ?" ***************...

Gosub within a SUB

@StolenNomenclature Did you read my post where I explained why Vince did it or did you just skip it. You yourself commented saying other peoples attempts were "CRAP" (sis) as you called it. This type of language belongs at home and not in the public. I have looked at a couple of your posts and you p...

DIM STATIC in main module

The Help file in FB IDE in this instance is definitely for Advanced FB programmers. I am still getting acquainted with FB. After reading Help on this I am none the wiser. I cannot actually see that using DIM STATIC in the main module has any meaning. This seems analagos to CONST although CONST makes...

Gosub embedded in a SUB/Function

My query was to try and find a solution for the original question/request for a Gosub within a SUB/Function. From what I now gather using my suggestion is possible if it doesn't matter which module changes a value/variable. If I remember correctly in VB variables could be declared Private (STATIC) o...

GOSUB in Lang FB

QB 4.5 Related: Variables if declared as COMMON SHARED or SHARED would be available to the MAIN module SUBs and GOSUB. However if you did not want the SUB to change a variable the SUB was declared STATIC In most cases I have replaced the GOSUB-RETURN with a SUB and not a FUNCTION and I declared the ...

To all of you I as a user and only a QB4.5 programmer who did a Rip Van Winkle for about ten years really appreciate it that you are bringing me up to speed with some things that fell through the holes in my memory. I remembered all the < <= > >= except that <> was "not equal" and not "less than" co...

@Vince. Short and to the point. Thank you. I just didn't check far back enough in the QB4.5 manual. There is thus no gain in using > "" although it would be valid if I first cleared the INKEY buffer. @ j_milton wrote: "first freebasic style does not use the $ with strings, and setting key = "" is re...

Using : IF Key$<> ""

I have a query regarding the following snippet: Key$ = "" Key$ = INKEY$ IF Key$ <> "" THEN '< = Less than > = More than I have been using this and it looks as if everybody else uses it. I'm beginning to think it has become convention or is/was there some other reason for using it ? Looking through t...

New Basic

Qb4.5 is a structured language. If you have used it then use it as a basis for FBC. You can however make a mess of any language by using unintelligible words or abbreviations which only you understand, but a year later have forgotten. If you haven't downloaded an FB IDE do it and then use the help f...

Chain

I tried the code on XP Pro SP2. Screencard Nvidia Gforce FX 5500. I changed the first line of both the programs to:- SCREEN 18,32,,GFX_FULLSCREEN Both programs ran flawlessly and did not minimize on the taskbar. Program one ran and then after pressing the spacebar Testchain.exe ran. Once again press...
