Re: Off Topic. Encrypting this forum

There are two choices open to us. 1) we make it easy for people to spy on us 2) we make it harder for people to spy on us A lot of my posts are related to the future of computing and advances in computing. It kind of helps to keep one eye on the future, after all it flocking our way whether we like...

Re: simple CPU Benchmark with comparisons + 5%FB speed boost

187 mips is about the same a Celeron 2.6ghz While clocks speeds have stalled or in some case been dialed lower for power saving/heat reduction other improvements in architecture have helped performance. Because moarh! ghz was, in the past, fairly easy to come by, hit it with big $ hammer AND its an ...

Re: simple CPU Benchmark with comparisons + 5%FB speed boost

Been doing some research into future CPU speeds. as in the next 5,10 and the next 20 to 50 years Looks like we will be stuck with less than a billion instructions a second per core speedtest7.exe for the foreseeable future. Most computers today will hit between 100 million (clunker) and 750 million...

Re: FB Speech Synthesis anyone ?

Writing good end-user software requires commitment & vision Rollie. Im not doing this for kicks im doing it to solve 'real problems' , some-projects are just for fun... this isn't one of them ! ...Just making that abundantly clear in advance. I doubt anyone on here wants to make a big commitment...

Re: HAL9000 thinking machine all the bells & whistles

Finally solved the humanoid eye mech. I literately had to sit down and write a flow chart of the various issues, solutions and issues that stemmed from each solution. I ended up with a truly unique mechanism, something id never seen before. While their are several basic solutions that are easily fo...

Re: FB Speech Synthesis anyone ?

Basic speech recognition has been around for a while but it is only useful in a narrow range of instances. Speech synthesis is the output side & what the OP is about. It too is only useful in a narrow range of circumstances. Whats needed is some 'easy plug n play software' that greatly broadens ...

Re: FB Speech Synthesis anyone ?

agreed ! and you also have to emulate in software the influence that human emotions have on that vocal tract When it comes to something as expressive as the human voice, cutting corners also means cutting capability. Im kind of surprised that noone has bothered to 'nail it'. When it comes to the hum...

Re: FB Speech Synthesis anyone ?

Voice tech is now what id call borderline useful. The voice in the video is far from perfect but its just about bearable to listen to. As is typical with current approaches as soon as you ask the voice to say something outside it main voice bank the quality plummets. 50 Google Now Voice Commands htt...

Re: Squares

Sadly the info in the third video shows we haven't really moved on from the 1980's despite understanding very well what needs to be done. Some problems are non trivial and speech anything is one of those problems. VODER (1939) - Early Speech Synthesizer, a mechanical system built almost 100 years ag...

FB Speech Synthesis anyone ?

FB Speech Synthesis anyone ? The Problem ! Messing about with SAPI voices is both limited uninspiring and the results are pretty ropey. Lack of expressive control a key flaw. Im interested in creating a 'highly fit for purpose artificial voice' , one where you have direct access to a 101 emotional ...

vocal synthesis with MIDI http://www.synthtopia.com/content/tag/vocal-synthesis/ The current approach to speech synthesis is pretty lacking.
