Please, don't EVER make FB closed source. People, like me, appreciate a project more when the creator is generous enough to share his source with the world.

configuration file

Could someone give me some tips on how to make a program that reads configurations from a text file? I'm not sure where to start with that.

woah, those programs are awesome, especially trid. Hey, is there any chance you can get BitmapRip to find ico files? Those are the most common image files used in internal windows apps. There's a lot of awesome icons there.

The windows api is incredibly confusing and frustrating. There is no way I can make anything that uses it.

memory scanner

is it possible to write a memoy scanner in freebasic, that scans the memory allocated to a specified program, finds a value, and changes it? how could I do something like this? I would just need some base functions.

fbasm wrapper

Wouldn't it be "theoretically" possible to make a wrapper that would read freebasic code, and generate equivalent and library independant assembly code? This could greatly aid in the writing of operating systems in freebasic.

I'm running linspire. I didn't want to risk destroying my laptop with uninsured linux. I was afraid of this. I've learned that commercial linux is usually missing many essential parts.

wtf? libraries missing

on linux, most of the libraries I need for freebasic are missing. Aren't those supposed to come with linux? Where can I get all the libraries bundled together, because I'm NOT going to search for and download 20-some libraries that are SUPPOSED to be there in the first place.

Sorry, I guess I don't know what I'm talking about. I'm still very new at this. :(
