In search of QuickBasic compatibility workarounds

After installing FreeBasic 0.15 (8 oct. release) nearly all my problems have been solved (incuding finding workarounds for incompatibility with QuickBasic). However there are two issues left while migrating from QuickBasic to FreeBasic for which I could not find a workaround: A. Datatype CURRENCY ==...

You are right. It works in graphics mode indeed. For me this is enough, I don't know if any other user needs this to be fixed.

Bug in INKEY$ (version 0.15 - oct 8.)

In version 0.14 a bug was found concerning the processing of diacritical characters. This bug was fixed. However in (the latest version of) 0.15 something goes wrong as well, as soon as a character is entered by means of <ALT><ASCII-value>. Try next code: Kbd$="" DO WHILE Kbd$="" Kbd$=INKEY$ LOOP PR...

In the original program a ';' was added. I removed parts of the code in order to determine where the bug occured. Thanks for responding anyway. I am looking forward to the stable version of 0.15..... So far I have not been able to find more bugs while migrating from QuickBasic to FreeBasic. Regards,...

Finally I could isolate the situation where the error occurs. The error occurs if TWO boxes are drawn: DECLARE SUB DrawBox(Row1,Col1,Row2,Col2) CLS DrawBox 1,1,25,80 DrawBox 19,20,21,60 'Right bottom corner of this box is lost!!! END SUB DrawBox(Row1,Col1,Row2,Col2) 'Draw a box on the screen between...

It's the Wiki of july 25.
I downloaded FreeBasic and the documentation at the same time. I have not checked if there is a new version, as I expected a new version of the documentation te be released together with a new version of FreeBasic.

Error in processing fbc -s switch

If a program is compile with the switch -s and parameter gui, the console window will still apear behind the program window.

There is no difference with the default value -s console.

Error in description of fbs -s switch

At page 92 / 93 the different switches of fbc are described.
These switches are case-sensitive.

The parameter added to the -s switch MUST be lowercase, so gui in stead of GUI. Otherwise it will not be recognised

You are right, actually I am not yet writing date to the disc, but just attempting to open a file for writing: OPEN "A:\ADRESS.DAT" FOR OUTPUT AS #1 Then the error code 2 is returned. 'File not found' is very specific (and in this situation not right). File I/O-error is more general, but I agree bot...

Wrong error code while writing to not available A-drive

If output is written to a file at the A-drive and there is no disc available in the drive, an error code is returned.

The error code returned is 2 (meaning File not found, according to the documentation)
The error code expected is 3 (meaning File I/O-error, according to the documentation)

Error while printing empty string to file

If an empty string is printed to a file, this is not handled correctly. Next code contains two different situations in which an error occurs STR1$="String1" STR2$="" STR3$="String3" OPEN "TEST1.TXT" FOR OUTPUT AS #1 WRITE #1,STR1$,STR2$,STR3$ CLOSE #1 The contents of TEST1.TXT should be "String1",""...

Great. Does this also apply to the Windowsbased-version? I know I am quite confusing (sorry for that), but while migrating applications from QuickBasic to FreeBasic I use both the DOS- and the WINDOWS-based version of FreeBasic tot test. I just realised I used the Windows-based version of the compil...

OK, I expected F11 (and F12) to be CHR$(255) +"E" ("F"). The documentation of the keyboard scancodes showed I was wrong. HOWEVER (and it took a while to find out) after setting the mode of the screen using the SCREEN-statement, INKEY$ only recognises F1 to F9 (and no longer F10. I did not check for ...

Not all function keys passed by INKEY$

Basic function INKEY$ does pass function keys F1 to F9 (CHR$(255)+";" to CHR$(255)+"C")

However function keys F10 to F12 (CHR$(255)+"D" to CHR$(255)+"F") are not passed.

This error occurs in FreeBasic version 0.14b (both Windows and DOS)
