Re: Physics question

I expect both to move in y-direction only while rotating. You may be right with an object hitting a Borg ship. The boat and it's motor interacts with the water it is not skidding along a frictionless frozen lake with a rocket for propulsion. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qaIqanZ00uo However if th...

Re: Physics question

I cannot see what BasicCoder2's last post is adding more to the conversation than the second post did; or am I missing something? Neither did I. As I don't see a real difference between the flying saucer and the borg cube, I expect both to move in y-direction only while rotating. (assuming the thru...

Re: Physics question

fig. 4 and fig. 5 and fig. 6 are taken from my latest program where I am using a single rocket motor that can be rotated. fig. 6 I would suggest is equivalent to your first example where you have two fixed motors with one not firing. I would suggest that the vector force would be divided up as shown...

Maybe you need a 2d physics engine?

Re: Physics question

You have piqued my interest in the problem so I am working on it some more. Maybe I will figure it out, maybe not. Will perhaps give it another look tomorrow. I see the problem as the same physics (but without water friction) of a boat with an outboard motor. The left/right arrow keys increase rotat...

Re: Physics question

The force is not through the centre of mass even if it is in "the y direction". Try pushing a cup with your finger. If it is through the centre of mass it will go in whatever direction you push. If however you use your finger to push at the left or right of the centre of mass (nothing to d...

Re: Physics question

No math expert to explain it? A verbal description of what I image would happen is that every time the single engine was fired the resultant force would be divided into two amounts with one going to increasing the velocity of the rocket in the opposite direction to the rocket engine firing and the o...

Re: "A Love Letter To FreeBASIC" Game Dev Competition (Feb 2019 –Mar 2019) - Round 2

... the main motivator for the game was/is the competition element for me. Whereas I belong to the small minority who aren't in the least bit competitive. I just do my best and I am happy with that. Has anyone tried my game so far? Just tried it. Not sure how to play it? Can you rotate the blocks? ...

Re: "A Love Letter To FreeBASIC" Game Dev Competition (Feb 2019 –Mar 2019) - Round 2

Well I course I didn't mean forever, just I guess how much time they think they need?
So I guess if they can't get it done in time just call it a good try and forget about it?
The first round worked out ok so the competition itself was a success.

May as well give them all the time they need as nothing else is happening in the FreeBasic Game programming world.

Re: how to rotate around an arbitrary axis

@dodicat, Another demo to add to the dodicat folder :) Your code is of course beyond me to read. It is easy to translate a fully understood algorithm to code but not so easy for me to work out the algorithm from its coding particularly the higher level compact coding you use. When I observed in my v...

Re: how to rotate around an arbitrary axis

Still haven't been able to find a function to rotate a point around any arbitrary axis to fly the cube around like a paper plane but I am still looking. It appears it must use quaternions to avoid gimble lock. A hobby programmer hopes there might be already written functions that do common tasks, su...
