MS-DOS 4.0 (multitasking)

I was doing some searching on the internet and came across some items that mentions that there was/is a European MS-DOS 4.0. Since this forum has a lot of European members, has anybody really used this version of DOS? I also noticed that the software is available, but I do not have any 720 or 360 fl...

Re: View command in DOS

Thanks for the suggestions fxm, I guess it was the fault of my coding. The next thing that I would like to try is to have a program start up when I click a button on the main window. Maybe add a line of code within the view code that would start up an external program, then when the external program...

Re: View command in DOS

I made the changes that fxm had suggested, and it sort of works. I had to remove the 'view' command, because that did not work as expected. So, when you click on the view button it opens the window, which is to be expected. But, when you move the mouse cursor over the OK button the window closes, no...

Re: View command in DOS

The program below has the complete code, all you have to do is compile and run. The initial screen shows two buttons, quit and view. When you click the view button, that opens up a window which has the OK button. When you press the OK button it is supposed to close the window and make the quit and v...

FreeDOS and UEFI

Not sure about asking here, but does anybody know how to make a bootable FreeDOS HD. This is a new system that has the UEFI bios with no legacy support. It seems that when you do a format C: /S, it does a format and a system transfer but the UEFI does not recognize it. Anybody figure out how to get ...

Re: FreeDOS 21st century?

widgets.bi, that is just my lib that I created to hold the button code. I also just tried the chain() command, it seems to work differently when you have a 'screen 20' in the code. I am strictly testing in the DOS environment, it seems like some of these commands are working differently when used in...

View command in DOS

In the program below, I was trying to figure out why the use of the 'view' command is not working as I expected. The program opens up showing the two buttons, but when I press the 'OK' inside of the view window, sometimes it responds immediately, but most of the time it does not seem to be respondin...

FBC ver 1.06.0 DOS

I was just looking through the distribution, and I found it a little confusing to identify what is valid for DOS in the examples dir. In the main thread for the DOS distribution, it was mentioned that there is some experimental multitasking, but I do not see anything in the DOS examples dir that wou...

Re: FreeDOS 21st century?

I am more interested in FreeDOS and FBC, if I have a copy of MS-DOS, I have not used it in a very long time. I just noticed a new version of FBC is available, and I also noticed that it has some "experimental" multithreading for DOS. Now, I am wondering if that could be used in a manner th...

Re: FreeDOS 21st century?

...8-bit should provide a full 256-colour palette (although I think the last 8 or so colours are black). Does anybody have a chart listing for the color palette that FBC supports? I have the standard listing of 0 - 15, with zero being black, and …, etc. Since it seems that FreeDOS and FBC handle co...

Re: FreeDOS 21st century?

Just to see how FreeDOS handles GUI, I created the program below. A couple of things I did notice with the FBC DOS version, only 16 colors to work with? The other thing is, for some reason the "time' display does not look right, not sure how to fix that. I am sure that there are other things th...

Re: FreeDOS 21st century?

In these kind of messages there is always so much hope, but after 40 years of dos, there should be more than hope to show for. Yea, I totally agree, but it is what it is. What would I like to see? Maybe a freeDOS kernel that has multitasking and of course 32 bit protected mode. Have the kernel be a...

FreeDOS 21st century?

As I was doing some electronics clean up I came across a couple of items that maybe could work with FreeDOS. That led me to go to the FreeDOS site, where I noticed they just released FreeDOS 1.3 RC1, that got me curious. I also noticed some coverage of something called the NightKernel, more curiosit...

Re: SQLite 3. Any update since 1.05 release 3 years ago?

I just installed FreeBASIC for Linux, and I was trying to play around with sqlite, but when I compile my test program, it comes back with ld: cannot find -lsqlite3. Did the Linux version forget to include "sqlite3.bi"? I checked some of the directories for sqlit3.bi, but I could not find i...

Re: MyTerminal prog

I just came across this thread, and I noticed that it is a ten year old thread. Wow, how time flies … I also noticed, that the thread has a few views, which makes me think, did anybody get anything out of reading the whole thread. I would like to thank, phishguy, again, for all the help that he had ...
