Random Name Generator

I was browsing through my code archive and came across this old random name generator from an unfinished rpg several years back when I was using QB 4.5. It compiles fine with -lang qb with the 0.18.3 compiler. I never used it, I didn't really like the results, but maybe someone would find it interes...

Here is a link to Tiny Rogue. A small roguelike project by Andrew Collins. It is written for QBasic, but might give you a few ideas. http://www.geocities.com/andrewsqbpage/ I would say that the biggest challange I have faced in working on my own RL project was, and continues to be the escalating siz...

Excellent example. A next step might be setting up a two dimensional array for your map. This would specify what is on each map cell. An easy way to do this to decide what ascii characters you want to use for each type of terrain. Then set up an enum type (or defines) so you can refer to them by nam...

Mandriva requires more resources than are available on the rig I have for linux, so I'm going to try zenwalk.

Right now FB produces asm code. The main goal of the compiler that the devs are working toward is to port FB to a gcc front end.

The ram is pretty slim, I don't recall off hand. I'll try this mandriva with xfce after the holidays and see what happens.

Thanks sir_mud and tinycla for the pointers :)

Hopefully this isn't too cryptic, but it might help you find some missing/incorrect backlinks: http://www.freebasic.net/wiki/wikka.php?wakka=FBWikiCheck Perfect. With the exception of the *Index pages, each KeyPg|ProPg should have a backlink to the CatPg where it is found. My thoughts also. The bac...

The Scan Codes page might be useful if you use multikey.

I'm not using multikey but this is what I use for now until I have time to make/find something better. If you need string vals you'll need to convert from the scancode. function getk() as integer dim as string keybuffer dim as integer keylength, keycode keybuffer = "" do keybuffer ...

It's annoying for me... going through the tree using the backlink to go up one branch, and then suddenly not have a link to where I came from.

I'm wondering what the standard is, or if we have one yet for this.

My preference is for all the pages to be uniform in style/formatting.

Is mandriva linux distrib good for FB?

A friend of mine recommended the Mandriva linux dristribution. I have an old pentium 2 box I might use for this to compile and test my FB sources on.

Any suggestions or things I should look out for? (I have not installed or used any linux before)

Is there a better/best distro to use for FB?

A couple differences I note right away. (there may be others): Explicit dimensioning of variable types is required, and variable symbol suffixes are not used. End Case is not required/allowed. (Specifying the next case gives implicit end case.) Here I give a short example of what your InterFisier Fu...
