The AVI Library invokes the necessary audio/video decoders automatically and return a DIB for each frame as well as the decoded audio stream. I assume an uncompressed audio stream will be in PCM format, so I am really looking for a way to play a PCM buffer. It looks like there are some functions in ...

The only restriction is actually with the Graphics library since it is licensed under the GNU LGPL. So I can't create a program that is "MY" creation if I link to "fbgfx.bi"? What about "FreeImage" or "FBSound"? I would like to figure these things out before I waste any more time developing a game ...

Using FreeBASIC for commercial software development

Are there any reasons (legally) that would prohibit using FreeBASIC to develop commercial software?

I'm no expert on the subject, but unless KolibriOS is a Linux shell, I seriously doubt FB will work on it. From what I gathered on their website, it looks like a completely proprietary OS.

Cheers!

AVI Audio Stream

Does anyone have an example of playing back the audio stream from an AVI file. I have used the AVI library to extract the frames from an AVI file but I have never tried playing back the audio. I assume the audio data is in PCM format since the video data comes back already decompressed. If thats the...

I'm getting the same peformance as Lachie. Very slow and jerky no matter what settings. Plus I am getting that "Z" error thing at the bottom.

I have updated the engine to test player movement and firing routines. The ship should follow the mouse and fire with the left button.

Get it here if you would like to test....

Since i'm not sure exactly what your trying to accomplish with your math I can't offer any optimizations there. But I would suggest passing your UDT's as pointers instead of ByVal. A copy of your UDT's is being made each time you enter the function. I would sugest this... Sub Line_Intersection(a As ...

I have done some optimizing and added in sprite collisions. If you are interested in testing it, I would appreciate your feedback. :-)

I added an FPS monitor in the upper left corner of the screen. The game is designed to maintain 30fps. Since this test is pushing 300 sprites, which is more that it will actually ever have to produce at one time, I would be satisfied with FPS readings from 24-30fps.

I'm planning on a real-time strategy/shooter game. I want non-stop action where winning will take the proper application of speed, choice of weapons and strategy.

Thanks for trying it out. I wasn't sure if I included all necessary files in the ZIP.

It's all relative. The more complex the calculations, the more benefit you will get using LUTs. I agree this is a relatively simple calculation. But the idea of using LUTs is a sound programming practice.
