Oh geez, get off of the old "goto is bad" cliché... it's one of the oldest, most dead horses in programming.

I'm not saying that it isn't important, I'm saying that it isn't necessary and anyone who says it is necessary is full of BS. It's not bashing, it's calling out ignorance and/or elitism, two things that this community doesn't need.

Long before FB was the advanced compiler it is today... in fact, I believe it was even before FB could compile itself (when it was done in VBDOS)... myself and several others demonstrated pure GUI coding in Windows without using inheritance and without even using .rc files. So anyone who tells you t...

SDL probably hasn't become popular with FB because of the excellent built-in graphics library. I use it in C all the time in Unix but never with FB.

And here I was hoping you could just step over the vblank check procedure automatically. He can... at least for commercial ROMs. The official GB assembler has a macro for waiting for vblank and, from what I've seen, most companies used it, so the code should be identical across ROMs. It might diffe...

Offtopic is always fun. :) I stopped the development of the RPG because the scene can't get over its elitism and stop fighting. It's like the DirectQB debate all over again and I don't want any part of that rabble a second time. And I had plans to port another game or maybe even do an original one b...

Re: Globls are bad (?)

@Eponasoft I am not picking a fight. If you have perhaps read my clarification regarding linking of two files item 6 in the last post on Page 1 (QB4.5) could you please give me a reply that is more relevant the to the subject. Unfortunately, I have no idea what you're talking about. In the post I m...

I'm necroposting my own thread since... well, I can. :P After digging through the MCI metalanguage a bit more, here's something that will help a bit for using this in a real application: ' add this right before the 'play' line lngError = mciSendString("break " + strAlias + " on 27...

I found the newline warning a bit stupid but not nearly as stupid as the win32 installer's desire to uninstall previous versions... that was just plain moronic. It can be necessary to have several versions concurrently, and no, this point isn't up for argument.

Pretty lame arguments, this document is... almost as lame as the ages-old GOTO debate (the most hideously pathetic argument ever devised) or that moron who actually thinks that including other sources into your main source somehow magically screws up compilation by "misaligning" the code (wtf, it's ...

A quick-and-dirty win32-only AVI player using only mmsystem

I derived this from some old VB6 code I found online a bunch of years ago...it seems to work quite well, though it's win32 only since it relies on mmsystem. Of course, the beauty part is that aside from the DLLs you already have on your Windows system, this doesn't engage in DEPENDENCY HELL like mos...
