duke4e: Don't worry about that side of things, I have the same problem with black boxes whilst playing your game on my machine, but I think we all understand that this sort of thing is beyond your direct control, and that in a competition such as this you're probably not going to have time to test a...

ssjx wrote:@ciw1973, for the next competition, how about a limit on the binary size? I've always like the idea of squeezing as much as possible into a tiny file!

Yeah, I'm a big fan of the same, but I think next time we need a regular game programming competition without any restrictions like these last two.

OK everyone, the competition's over!

As there's always a rush to get a final ZIP file hosted and linked, I'm going to give you all 20 minutes to double check your entries before I download them.

I will not be allowing any further changes to the entires after this.

How will we be voting for other entries? Just pick our favorite and name it, or give some points to each entry? Put all of the entries except your own in the order you like them. Then, give your top entry 15 points, your next highest 14 points etc. You'll have until 21:00 GMT on Monday 26th Novembe...

Gah! ciw, if they emailed you their entries already, could you please provide the downloads here? Nothing's come through yet, but I'll be hosting and posting links to the versions of each game submitted by the end of the competition. That way we know everyone's using the same versions for audience ...

I'm having the same problem with duke4e and aleofjax's entries, but then both are being hosted by MediaFire so it's not that surprising.

If anyone is having trouble with hosting, then please email your entries along with you forum name to chris[@]ciw42 dot net.

@ciw1973: Will there be another competition later? I love your competitions, and hopefully I would be able to participate in the next one. Oh, there will definitely be more. I've already promised Lachie that next time around there won't be any restrictions on the graphics or sound side of things. I...

Also, keep an eye on the General Forums for CIW's Game Competition. The entries will be submitted by the 19th and they will all include their source code! A great chance to see how other people are writing FB Games. Which is pretty much why I'm running these competitions. You'll find the discussion...

As long as the file is not distributed with the package, It would be considered just a temp file right?

Yup. If it's actually generated by your code, then it's OK.

If you generate the BMPs procedurally and save them to disk for loading, then that's fine, as effectively you are just creating temporary files, which is certainly not against the rules. I assume, with them being temporary files, that you'll be deleting them from disk once they are no longer needed,...

I hope my competition isn't to blame. Quite a few of the regular QBE contributors seem to be participating.

I think I'm reading anonymous1337's comments in the different way to the rest of you. I personally have always felt that he wanted the QB bit of QBE to die, rather than the magazine itself. It's a very fine magazine, but let's face it these days 90% of the content is FB. Aside from an issue with nam...

In this case I'll be using OpenGL because I'm not submitting an entry for the competition itself and it gives a huge performance boost even for 2D stuff, especially if you want slick dynamic presentation. The presentation I have in mind makes extensive use of alpha blending and scaling of quite larg...

Whilst I've put together a couple of MODs which I'm quite happy with, I've not had chance to actually start coding my entry yet, which is a shame as I'm really pleased with the game design I've got. There are actually four sub-games making up the whole - a three-in-a-row-puzzler, a dodge-the-asteroi...

I threw something together quickly a while ago for work which emails out PDF files as attachments. It uses COM Automation of Microsoft Outlook, so if you're looking at doing this in Linux or you don't have Outlook installed on the workstation, it won't be any help. If you're doing this, then you'll ...
