I was just wondering if anyone was interested in actually doing this? If there are people wanting to take part, but no-one is interested in organise it, then we could just go with my suggestion above, which in a nutshell was: "Write a driving game in FreeBASIC and submit it by the end of February" A...

Is anyone actually taking part in this?

-You probably wouldn't want to put very large files within the EXE, since it would take up more memory. If the bitmaps (for example) are kept separately from the EXE, then you can load and unload when you like. But if they are included as part of the EXE, they'll presumably be kept in memory perman...

I was looking for feedback on the idea as much as anything. I mean, it seems like an extremely useful feature to me, and I'd use it a lot, but everyone else in the world may think it was a waste of time.

Feature request.

I know this is the documentation section, but we don't appear to have a "Feature Request" section. Can I put a request in for a compiler directive to allow including the binary data of a file in your code? I'd like to include bitmaps or other forms of binary data directly in my final executable, so ...

Yeah, this was discussed in the thread I linked to above.

In summary, if you want to send emails with attachments through Outlook on Windows (as per the example code I posted) then it's a breeze, but if you want to send them directly, there's a lot more involved.

Unless you impose some major restrictions I think you're going to have problems here, as everyone knows what the basic challenge is, and may even have started coding things. I notice Kris has just released a couple of nice OpenGL demos featuring cars. You may as well just keep it simple and say that...

I still plan on running the original competition which was discussed after the Space Invaders one finished, but right now I just don't have the time for anything like that.

I'd expect that a one week competition would be better that a 48 hour one for most people, but then it's not my call.

I've got absolutely no free time at the moment, which is why I'm just popping in here for 5 minutes every now an again, but if someone wants to organise a challenge, I'll put up the prize money as follows: 1st Prize - 50 GBP Two Runner's up prizes of 25 GBP Or if you want to allocate the 100 GBP dif...

There was a short thread a while back which included quite a few examples of how you could do this.

You can find it here.

The first machine I owned was a VIC20 back in '83, before moving onto the 64 then the Amiga. That said, before getting the VIC, I used to play around on ZX80 & ZX81s owned by others, and of course, as I'm based in the UK, we had BBC machines at school. They were the days, when you had complete c...

For the GBA/DS you want Devkitpro and I'd also recommend No$GBA which actually emulates the DS very well.

Can't help you on the XBox side of things, as it's not a console I've tried developing for.

I'm also running 18.2 and there's no sign of it in my INC folder, or anywhere else for that matter.

Is it maybe just missing from the Windows distribution?

I've had exactly zero time the last two days of this week and over the weekend to do anything let alone finish off the write-up for the competition. I'd love to have been able to submit a full competition write-up and results for the latest QBE, but life has once more got in the way. My new goal is ...
