DOS "Window" in FreeBasic graphic mode

DOS is not a multitasking system, although it allows to have more than one process in memory: only the last one loaded is executed, the others are suspended. When another program is launched (for example with the command SHELL) the original program pauses, and resumes when the other program terminat...

Re: Squares

You can handle it by adding a "step 8", I guess, in your cycle

Re: Squares

How is your algorithm supposed to know if a sequence of 8 zeroes has been introduced by the compression, or it was part of the original data sequence?

Sequence 00100: 0-01-0-0 or 0-0-100?

Re: Squares

And when you encounter an 1 during decompression, how can you tell if it was alone or the beginning of a 10?

Sequence "1011" is 10-1-1 or 1-011?

Re: Squares

I sit and think of a formula , sometimes it takes a couple days.. Then i try it , no matter how senseless it seems.. Sometimes it expands the data , and then the Zlib will somehow compress it , to smaller... ( never know. ) Once Nikola Tesla said “If he [Thomas Edison] had a needle to find in a hay...

Re: Squares

If "bin( count - 1 )" is written as an 8 bit sequence, each time you will encounter a sequence that has less than 8 consecutive zeroes you will replace them with 8 binary digits, and in that way you will make the file longer, not shorter. Instead, if "bin( count - 1 )" is express...

Re: the mathematical analog clock

This is absolutely NOT recommended: SLEEP (1) sec = sec + 1 minute = minute + (1 / 60) hour = hour + (1 / 3600) k$ = INKEY$ The command SLEEP doesn't guarantee to pause exactly one second (if a key is pressed, for example, SLEEP terminates immediately). Even worse, other instructions, like INKEY, LI...

No, it can't.

Apply it to all values from 0 to 255, and you will see that it doesn't work. It's the pigeon hole problem.

No, it can't. I don't even need to check your code to know: with your premises, it's unavoidable to have duplicates: check it, and you'll find some.
