Re: FreeBASIC 1.08.1 and 1.09.0 Development

Yea, ErrorHandling should not be used for essentially coding purpose. I must say I subscribe 100% your proposals.
Thanks Jeff for all your efforts.

Re: [solved] Is the FreeBASIC array alignment safe ?

An array twice as large and a wrapper ( Fix(i/2+1) ) (1 dim) on the index ? Would require to implement index wrapping capabilities (tasting like lzae stepcursor) into the library (whenever unsupported) maybe ? Just an idea, don't know.

@joeyxl. Please don't hesitate to re-open this topic or open a new one including code (or not) any time you decide, especially if you have questions. You may also post on dedicated or related topics.

Re: A brain teaser

'maybe randomly', yes. I remember I had no time nor technicity to further investigate, just adapting my way of coding. Nowadays, I didn't see the pb again, so perhaps an old release, or anything else. I get now full of x=myfunc(x) in my codes and do not dare to change... So far.. Let's remind the pr...

Re: A brain teaser

Sometimes we pass arguments to a function and it doesn't matter whether the argument will impact or not, but just whether it is as fast as possible. If this is confirmed, could we also imagine a new keyword 'owt' in addition to byval and byref, kwd whose documentation can be viewed on youtube (tm) h...

Re: A brain teaser

I think I have sometimes noticed that on old versions or maybe because of an optimization of the compiler or whatever it is, byref sometimes behaved in byval, maybe randomly. So I got used to writing: x = myfunc (x), to force the implicit reassignment of the byref and remove the ambiguity, and we ge...

Re: Is FreeBASIC good for beginners to progrmaming?

@joeyxl. lzle is a datastructure implementation designed for FB, wich implement cool features like garbagecollector and indexing. Understanding lists and/or some datastructures is a step for beginner/intermediate programmers, and may be a tool for some more advanced programmers. You can find it here...

Re: Is FreeBASIC good for beginners to progrmaming?

C is not really for beginners. FB versus C has got some advantages : code is more 'hight level', so programming shall be much more 'readable',easier and faster, wich can be an advantage for fast or rad coding. Thus, FB also supports pointers, meaning an opening to the C way of doing. FB is a great c...

I respect your choice. Let me suggest you'd rather go directly on structured programming. I think this would be more intuitive using FB

Re: Is FreeBASIC good for beginners to progrmaming?

I'd say yes, it's a good langage because it offers a wide range of typology of use. You will find on forum lots of links, libraries (like LZLE), and code exemples. Thus, there will be often someone who will be glad to answer questions. You'll discover langage alive and active community. You'll disco...

Re: Albert's thread

Good morning all. This topic appeals to me, I make these thoughts in total frankness. I would like to start with a point that seems important to me: Albert's ban from the forum is a scathing political defeat. Because from the point of view of a non-scientist, Albert has done no harm: I have never se...
