Re: How old are you ?

So just give them a good leaving alone and they will do their thing. But changing the role to a guide bears more fruits. Try some meditation or relaxation exercises. They loosen the mind from chains that have developed around one and then inspiration and new ideas just pop in all on their own. I use...

Re: Quickbasic Cafe Forum

Don's problem was he could not choose between LPT1 and LPT2. He had two printers connected one for reports etc and the other for labels. With QB you could print to either printer but his problem was and I think still is that the default printer is automatically selected. If one uses something like t...

Re: How old are you ?

Re: Array Question

perhaps it is in the DIM statement the (0) will dim it to one element? while FB will as QB regard it as the default of 12 elements. Only guessing

Re: In FOR..NEXT jumping to next iteration.

An old dirty code - leaving most programmer shouting no no. but it is the same as JMP. and is judicious use of GOTO Give your Next I a label; viz CheckI: Next I If an IF THEN decision is true directly before END IF say - GOTO CheckI Of course this will skip to the next iteration but it will start ch...

Re: How can I create an rtf file?

I harvested the RTF codes from a RTF form by using Notepad. The form has Bold headings and sub-headings and two different size fonts are used. The text is also formatted/standard. I write the data to a file using the codes as a string where required. It looks fine when viewed from Wordpad or WordPer...

Re: What is in a DLL

@MichaelW

Hi, thanks and woosh what you said is to high so I can't come by. I am an old QB4.5 man (yes literally old) and not so hot with the inner workings of Windows.

Is there perhaps a specific file or program that I can use to get the info.

What is in a DLL

in QB4.5 you have a facility to show the contents of a QLB.

Is there perhaps a way to see what routines are in a Windows DLL ?

Re: #lang "qb" + Dim Varx as Byte

Okay the "potential" to break may be there but I have been using it (after the conversion of the QB RANDOM file to a FB RANDOM file) for the past two-and-a-half months and it has not broken. If you pad it with spaces before saving to a random file the final null is always there and the len...

Re: #lang "qb" + Dim Varx as Byte

Umm bearing in mind how I bypassed it, it is quite a success and virtually foolproof.
Using this method I haven't had any bugs or strange results. Okay a few lines extra in a SUB but we got so used to finding solutions in QB that this is just another
"don't give up bypass."

Re: #lang "qb" + Dim Varx as Byte

for RANDOM files you should use Type... END TYPE it was already the QB alternative for FIELD. BUT !! FB random is not the same as a QB RANDOM file i.e TYPE MyFILe A as string * 10 B as string * 3 END TYPE DIM MyMess as MyFile FB was made compatible with C in this regards and not QB so the use of fix...

Re: Open "filename" for output as #1

Right you are using # lang "QB" - you can also use #Lang "fblite" which gives a few more goodies such as DJPeter's sound with still standard QB language. 1. Your SHELL routine is the only easy way to change the attribute from within your program. 2. Something to consider. Why not...

Re: GFX_FULLSCREEN in #Lang "FB"

@ Dodicat I followed your suggestions and they are 100% what I needed. Thank you. It is much easier to say COLOR Bwhite, Bblue (B=Bright) than to try to remember what the different integers are for a color The only thing I found on WIN7/8 is that my program is rather slow to start up and it take age...
