I'm currently rewriting my code to use 32 bit integers only, so I have some idea of what's going on in the memory. I'd rather not use lookup tables (yet) (I'm stubborn) this is mostly just proof of concept for me, and an excuse to learn some assembly. edit: okay, why can't I "mov ax,eax"? edit again...

64 bit crc algorithm

I'm currently working on a 64 bit implementation of crc in Freebasic, but it's ungodly slow right now. I was wondering if anyone can see anything I could do to speed it up (other than make it a 32 bit algo ;) ) function crc64(b as any ptr, dlenb as integer, clearit as byte=0) as ulongint stati...

try making sure that the .rc file and the .ico file are in the same dir, and don't use quotes, just the name of the ico file.

Code: Select all

LOCATE 5,17

puts the cursor on the 5th row, 17th column

Code: Select all

COLOR  15,3

sets the foreground color to 15 and the bg color to 3

and yeah, that's all you should need to know.

I believe that the answers for both of your questions are yes. DLLs created in freebasic can be used by other compilers, you just have to port the header file to the other language. As far as the .a file, I don't think you need that, but I think it can be included in your program as a static lib, re...

so, instead of using "myicon.ico", you'd use "whatever.res".

Step 1. Create an icon, which it sounds like you've already done. Step 2. Create a file with the .rc extension. maybe "icon.rc" Step 3. Open "icon.rc" with some sort of text editor and make it look like this: FB_PROGRAM_ICON ICON myicon.ico (and replace "myicon.ico" with your icon filename) Step 4. ...

to use the windows api, you only have to put

Code: Select all

#include "windows.bi"

at the top of your program. Look in the freebasic/examples/win directory for a few examples of using the windows api.

if you do a search of these forums (I think it's in the tips and tricks one) there's a handy fb screensaver kit for windows.

I finally found a free hosting site that doesn't require registration. Here's a link: http://s7.quicksharing.com/v/2424015/ircdll.zip.html
You'll also need sdl.dll and sdl_net.dll (or the equivalents on linux)
command line for compiling:

Code: Select all

fbc sdlnet_irc.bas -dll -x irc.dll
