FBC --> GCC would totally be neat. Something that could forever push it over the edge to being something really portable.

Console to Graphics screen?

Hi Everyone,

Lets say you create console-mode (screen 0) menus and graphics. Is there any way of getting those translated into a graphics mode? Such that, it looks the same in graphics mode, but now you can blit BMP's in addition to just having text?

Well actually you won't get an out of memory error in all cases. In cases you don't get one, FB won't do anything. For instance, if you pass Exec some kinds of executables it doesn't always cause it to launch. I haven't been able to figure out why but in some cases with the diffrent methods of launc...

I haven't tried / don't know about the spawn function.

But in regards to the original subject, is there any limitations to Shell, Run, Exec, etc... I should know about in terms of what can be launched and what cannot?

Exec, Shell, etc --> Out of memory?

Hey Everyone, I noted when calling external applications (Exec, Shell, etc), such as WinZip for example, sometimes it does nothing at all. Upon further investigation, it seems "Out of memory" has occured, yet the system has loads of memory free. Does that mean FB does not spawn called applications i...

Well people, I sure hope so... Before FreeBasic (and after I tried other languages, like Pyton), I always wondered why nothing could be made as simple yet useful as it was back in the QB45, C, Pascal days. I remember as a kid I used QB45 an awful lot and wrote wonderful console-mode applications lik...

The Direction of FreeBasic development...

Hey Everyone, Just some general forum chatter! :-) With the news of Cha0s taking a brake is there any word on FreeBasic development and/or the direction it will take? Although I don’t know much about how the inner workings of the compiler, I’ve found FreeBasic, syntax, and functionality ...

Hrm... So Pcopy is a windows specific comand? So anyway, in regards to page flipping I did some tests and I found that it doesn't give any performance gains under WIN32 console. I mean, it does draw to the back buffer screen, but the time to render text in the background vs forground is exactly the ...

Console output --> Win32 compiler slower than DOS?

Hey Everyone, I created a library that draws ascii windows with shadows, controls, etc. Much like Microsoft DOS programs like EDIT.EXE does. But what I noted is that when I compile using the WIN32 compiler it paints and draws windows quite slowly. I can actually see the cursor move very fast and dra...

This whole thing sounds terrible. Shouldn't good coding practices and flow control negate any need to exit an IF statment?

Printing outside of a view port possible?

Hey Everyone,

If you setup a view port, is there any way to print text outside of it via a locate statment or some other means? Such that, you could print console commands inside the view port while having a text HUD on the upper portion of the window?

opening piped data as a file stream.

Hey Everyone,

When opening piped data as a file stream, does the piped data get sent as it is generated, or is the full command executed and all standard output captured before your code resumes and parces the piped data?
