hmm, i see, yeah thats no problem what so ever, but i got home late last night and when i got bored i restarted this little thing again from something i was thinking of before for fun from memory and it was about 3 am so i havent done a desk-check on the code so it probably wouldnt even run let-alon...

Random access files are larger than they should be
I've been trying to make a simple programme and i realise that it hasnt been working because it doesnt follow: len = lof (fileNo)/len(record) as i thought it used to, i.e i would have thought the file would be the length of the record times the amount of records but the file is a fair bit larger. Hi, Dinosaur I shall use your techniques like the variable and freefile, Thanks. So if the for next loop went to totalrecords that would be the equivalent as EOF ? (If so why would say in this instance totalrecords = lof(FileNum)/len(record) be referring to a record out side of the file?) Thanks Heaps

Well what i was doing was trying to randomly select an element or record out of approx 784632 that had some other type values in it, but the thing was i wanted to eliminate some elements or records so there is a smaller number range that the random choice could be. Resizing random access files
If you wanted to delete the last record, or possibly one in the middle, in a .dat file you created, how would you go about it?
I.e. Put #1, record_you_want_to_delete, type
[I wouldnt mind knowing how to do this with like 'Redim preserve' arrays if there is a way, either.]
