Re: exec/chain/run performance loss

Sorry about the delay. You're right MichaelW, running the external program without calling screen or screenres works fine. But if I init a screen first the external program runs choppy.

Re: exec/chain/run performance loss

As an update, I found it even happens in DOSbox. Does that rule out DPMI/disk cache problems as the cause of my problem?

Re: exec/chain/run performance loss

I ran hdpmi32.exe -r before running my own program and it's still too slow, it did *seem* as though it was a bit more responsive though. The disk caching utility that came with freedos 1.1 is UIDE though I don't know which version, I'll try replacing it. The program I'm running is Vantage, a protect...

Re: exec/chain/run performance loss

Actually I don't know, I had HDPMI32.EXE in the program folder but after removing it and rebooting the PC the program still runs the same? I thought I should get a no DPMI error. I'm running Freedos 1.1.

edit: I upped RAM to 256MB but it made no difference.

exec/chain/run performance loss

Hi, I'm having some problems with the exec command in DOS: the program that is launched from within my own program runs too slow. Since it's DOS I assume no CPU cycles are wasted on my own program while the new program is running so probably it's a lack of RAM or VRAM? I tried freeing all loaded ima...

Re: PCX image loading/drawing

Ok, I tried changing the default bpp=32 to bpp=8 in the imageinfo.create function but I guess it ain't that simple :) Btw what are the scrinit & cls functions for in your code dahfi?
Thanks again for the continued support!

Re: PCX image loading/drawing

Thanks for the fix! I'm still getting an illegal function call on the put call if I set the screen depth to 8 or 16bit though, any idea why this might be the case? Program works fine in 24 or 32 bit mode.

Re: PCX image loading/drawing

That's odd, I'm still getting the same error here when I run the test case with your fixed destroy sub? I CAN fix it by removing the call to destroy in the create function: Function ImageInfo.Create(ByVal pWid As UShort, ByVal pHgt As UShort, _ ByVal pRed As UByte, _ ByVal pGrn As UByte, _ ByVal pBl...

Re: PCX image loading/drawing

Hmm I have a problem, I get a runtime error 12 on line -1 in the function DESTROY when using the following test case: (my own code is at the bottom) '' --------------------------------- ' PCX Loader by dafhi - 2012 06 22 ' ---------------------------------- Type RGBTriple As UByte red, grn, blu End Ty...

Re: PCX image loading/drawing

Ah that's odd, Irfanview shows them just fine. But after converting the BMP's back to PCX using Irfanview your code does work nicely :) I don't know what program the original pcx files were saved with, I'm guessing it used old/rare formatting which irfanview happened to support or perhaps it's even ...

Re: PCX image loading/drawing

Thanks for all the replies! I've tried your code dafhi yet it doesn't correctly render my PCX files. The colors are fine but I think it doesn't detect the right width or height. Here's an example image http://users.telenet.be/V776822/MYPCX.PCX . I made no modifications to the code for displaying the...

PCX image loading/drawing

Hi, I was wondering if there is any freebasic code for loading and displaying PCX images I can steal somewhere? :) My searches came up empty so far. Thanks!

Hey Kiyote, unfortunately the chr() trick doesn't work on draw string either. Once again, print works fine though. (it's chr(13)+chr(10) :) )

dim a as string a = "hello" a = a + "kitty" a = a + "cat" a = a + "eats" a = a + "mouse" [/code] Wow why didn't I think of that? :) Actually I'm having a problem with the newline escape sequence, neither \r \n or \l work with draw string, some symbo...
