Re: terms of use of the forum

Or simply rather than focussing on the negative and go on forbidding things, moderate more strictly on what is allowed i.e. ontopic-ness. I agree. Also, "Trolling" and "Slow Trolling" specifically should be banned in FreeBASIC's terms of use and dealt with as soon as moderators ...

Re: Valulng, Vallng, Valuint, Valint hex notation

I'm having difficulty understanding the purpose of the Valulng, Vallng, Valuint, Valint keywords. I understand what they do, but I don't understand why they go about in the way that they do. Specifically, I don't understand why a hexadecimal string is expected to have a prefix of "&H"...

Re: Ansi, Utf8 & Utf16 encoding problems

Robert: that post is a horrible mix of confusion wrt UTF8 as document or API encoding. Basically UTF8 is favoured because the *nixers were too lazy to rework their old junk codebases. Open Source tends to favor weak compromises rather than revolution. Hi marcov: I guess who is lazy depends on persp...

Re: Ansi, Utf8 & Utf16 encoding problems

Okay yes you're right. If you manually enable code page 65001 it appears that UTF-8 can work on the Windows Console, provided you have a font that can do it. I think the blog was talking about the internals of the Console subsystem, which is based on a grid of UTF-16 cells. So somewhere in the syst...

Re: String. How big is too big?

I guess it's the lenght of the line itself not the string. Splitting with underscores works. Not sure I did things rightly so do it yourself. Chaconne = "t50l32o4 fd>a<dfd>a<dfd>a<dfd>a<dfd>a<dfd>a<d fd>g<dfd>g<dfd>g<dfd>g<de>c+gc+<e>c+gc+ <dd>f<ddd>f<ddd>f<ddd>f<dda>f<ada>f<a <g>b->e<b-<g>a>f...

Re: String. How big is too big?

Hi robert, How is defined the string ? The length can range from 0 bytes to 2 gigabytes unless you use 'Dim As String * size'. And no chr(0). Hi SARG: The string is defined as DIM AS String Chaconne I also tried DIM Chaconne AS String * 2000 Here is the code ' Chaconne for Solo Violin (sample) ' fr...

Re: VisualFBEditor - IDE for FreeBasic

Thank you for the quick fix. Now I need to know how to compile MyFbFramework in Linux for the .so libraries. The ones that are in the binary distro do not work on Fedora because, I assume, they were compiled on some flavour of Debian or derivative. So you can compile: cd "C:\FreeBasic\Projects...
