Spinning Planet Demonstration

This project is a simple custom font framework with a demonstration that loads a low resolution map and hacks it into a spinning globe with lighting. Beware this is a crude hack =) The dropbox link includes maps for Earth, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, and others that can be changed in the planet.bi file....

Much thanks for clearing this up!

Re: How to use correct Common Shared syntax?

What exactly do you mean by "compile to separate modules?"

Re: How to use correct Common Shared syntax?

I just looked up namespace in the FreeBasic help document and I'm sorry I hadn't come across it before. However, I don't feel any of this provides a correct example for using common shared unless the intention was to persuade anyone from using that. I can't get the common examples from the FreeBasic...

Re: How to use correct Common Shared syntax?

I think your approach leads to cleaner and better organization. I'm sure I learned some bad habits from my high school days learning VB 6.

Re: How to use correct Common Shared syntax?

I was having this problem with my own code and in searching for an explanation I came across this recent post. Here is a simple solution by placing shared ival before #include as well as removing it from test2.bas : Commontest.bas dim shared ival as long = 10 #include "test2.bas" print myt...

Re: problem with binary read/write

Easy is to hold the data in an array and then simply load and save the whole array each time. @lizard - For what I'm trying to achieve there would be a possibly large memory footprint with the user only ever accessing small amounts at a time. I'm going for small hits to the hard drive periodically ...

Re: problem with binary read/write

Open filename For Append As filenumber @lizard - Works for me. By replacing "binary" with append it successfully adds data on to the end of the file. I'm still able to read binary as hoped. This solution fixes half my problem. I want to alter existing data in the file but don't want to re...

problem with binary read/write

Here's an example writing 3 bytes to a file. Then writing an additional 3 bytes erases the first 3 bytes. If I rewrite the first 3 then it erases the additional bytes. How can I avoid erasion? I tried to make a straight forward example since I'm not sure exactly how to explain what is going on. type...

Re: Pipes screensaver for console

Your code was not doing as intended on my Windows 10 machine. It was scrolling the console vertically. I made a few alterations so it does what it's supposed on my end. I'm thinking my problem has to do with a different default font size than what you programmed for. I also should mention that my CP...

Re: Bitmap and BitmapList classes

Is copying pixel for pixel (inside Clone()) necessary when you are using FBImages? Why not just use Get? Because it's slightly faster that way. I wonder if the speed increase has to do with bypassing overhead like checking if the bpp is the same or considering the clipping region or etc... Also, yo...

Re: display text in opengl

Very sorry to bring up an old post but in studying and testing both examples provided above I encounter a problem. When the text size is 1.0 it appears nothing is drawn to the screen. If I send a size of 0.9 or 1.1 then things get drawn to the screen. Rotating the text or character will draw to the ...

Thanks for giving this some attention guys. I was originally guessing the problem was related to the volume of data and not the number of lines.
