Re: BCD Conversion #Define(s)

OK. Thanks for this. I didn't go to the Tools site since it looked like more C stuff with the tar files which I'm not all that familiar with either but 7Zip opened it to my surprise. That was a good explanation of the encoding but it does look like a bit of a mess. Based on other stuff I've seen I d...

Re: BCD Conversion #Define(s)

I wish I could with some certainty. The references I have are lacking in documentation and there are many similar programs in one of the "libraries" ( http://vandyke.mynetgear.com/1401/Pierce/tools/ ). I suspect this might be one but I'm not sure. I'm just going by the name which was BCD2T...

Re: BCD Conversion #Define(s)

Rather than start a new topic I thought I'd tack on to this old one on BCD conversions ... I have downloaded a piece of history in the form on a BCD "tape". It has software from the 1960s on it that I am trying to run in a 1401 simulator running on Windows. I have a mental block on trying ...

Re: FreeBasic cross reference list

Thanks. I've been using FBIDE and it does not have this feature. But this is not a cross reference and it doesn't look like Geany has it either.

Update: But it does. Right click on variable, Show Usage, list statements containing the variable.

FreeBasic cross reference list

Anyone know of a simple-to-use cross reference listing for FreeBasic? That is, a program that will provide a list of variable names and where, by line number, they are used in a program.

Re: Text search of User Manual or Programmer's Guide

Downloaded the CHM file... Tried to do a search on &H and it ignored the & giving me results for H (and lower case h). Not much help there. Perhaps there are other chars that are troublesome beside the &. It is interesting I can't find squat on & conversions in the regular doc, not j...

Re: Text search of User Manual or Programmer's Guide

This might be painful for both of us. You need to realized my day job is retired and my previous job, tho in IT, was in management. So, first figure out what a CHM file is ... ok, got it ... an MS Help file format. OK, go someplace to find it for FB Oh, it's in SourceForge? Go there. Under SF FB doc...

Re: Text search of User Manual or Programmer's Guide

Ummm ... I think this is a "bit" out of my skill set -- if I'm even understanding what it is - an inline ASM subroutine for searching? I'd have a chance it if were 360 Assembler :) I think in lieu of a search might be an index of all terms in the doc(s) (removing some English terms but AND...

Text search of User Manual or Programmer's Guide

Is there a way to do a text search of the User Manual? For example if I want to look up something I can't find in the index (like "&H") can I use a search term to find it in the manual?

Re: DECLARE FUNCTION curiosity

That does it. Thanks.

Kinda weird that the underscore is the ONLY special character that can be used in var names but is also used for continuation.

DECLARE FUNCTION curiosity

If I declare a function (before use of the function) as: DECLARE FUNCTION GenSortKey (SortRec AS STRING,_ SortKeyStartLoc() AS INTEGER,_ SortKeyLeng() AS INTEGER,_ SortKeySeq() AS STRING)_ AS STRING ... I have no compile or execution problems. However, if I declare the function moving the first para...

Re: Embedded function calls

I said there's no reason for FB to support forward references without first declaring a function prototype. That's exactly what I was referring to. FB should permit forward references and should not require a pre-declaration (i.e. let the compiler do it.) JMHO. If you don't get it now, just hit esc...

Re: Embedded function calls

apparently Quick Basic had no issue with forward referencing a function without any sort of advanced declaration. FB does not allow that, nor can I think of a good reason to allow that. You can't? You just mentioned two of them. There are others ... Never programmed in C; never will. You are obviou...
