Re: How to convert from PowerBasic
Although I don't think many people use them, the addition of the $ sign is in fact optional after most of the string functions which PB and FB share (Left, Right, Mid etc.). This might help you a bit in the translation of a large PB code base to FB's default dialect or FB Lite. Although I don't use ...

Re: Windows cmd.exe to be deposed by PowerShell
MS have now confirmed that (thankfully) Windows 10 will continue to support cmd.exe even though the default shell will be PowerShell in future:

@srvaldez
Thanks for posting links to the binaries for these incredibly fast libraries which has probably saved me a lot of hassle trying to get them to work with Windows ;)

Re: How does Unicode work in FreeBASIC?
Wikipedia has a good article on the inner workings of UTF-8 and also how the present basis came about: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UTF-8 Interestingly, it was devised by Rob Pike and Ken Thompson who are also (together with Robert Griesemer) the creators of Google's 'Go' language. Back in the late...

I don't know who first came up with the logo but it's an appropriate one.

Re: How many times I can use ":" ?
I'm using version 1.05.0 for Windows 64 bit and it's interesting to compare the C code generated in the different scenarios: 1. As you originally had it: if( ALTURAGAIOLA2$0 != P2$0 ) goto label$3; { G2Y$0 = P2$0; if( SOBE$0 != 1ll ) goto label$5; { DESTINO$0 = P3$0; if( DESCE$0 != 1ll ) goto label$...

Re: How many times I can use ":" ?
It will work if you place 'end if ' after each nested if statement and then after the enclosing if statement: if AlturaGaiola2 = p2 then g2y = p2 : if Sobe = 1 then destino = p3 : end if : if Desce = 1 then destino = p1 : end if : end if print "Destino: "; destino '' 33 but it's very confu...

Yes, you're right of course.sancho2 wrote:Its not quite that cut and dry. It depends on which definition the compiler comes accross first:

If there are no goto's around, then 'foobar' could also be interpreted as a call to a parameterless sub of that name: sub foobar() print "foobar called" end sub ' goto foobar foobar : print "Sure, there's no goto foobar" /' output : foobar called Sure, there's no goto foobar '/ H...

Re: Windows cmd.exe to be deposed by PowerShell
I don't use Linux myself but I'm not surprised that you have no use for PS given all the other shells that are available for that platform. I remember getting quite excited when Powershell first came out in 2006 thinking that it would be a 'better' cmd.exe but, on closer inspection, it proved to be ...

Re: UDT instance member procedure assignement to a member variable
Well, the problem with assigning instance procedures to function pointer variables is the hidden 'object' pointer which all instance procedures require and which is passed 'under the hood' as their first (or only) parameter. If this were allowed, then there would be (or, at any rate, appear to be) a...

What do Windows users - and, indeed, Linux users - think about this ?

Do someone know how to get the compilation time from fbc? As Exec() should wait until the compiler completes its work, it should just be a matter of placing the usual 'timer' code around the call: var arguments => "-lang qb "& fileName var startTime => timer var execReturnCode => exec...

Re: Error in LEN() command
Thanks @marpon, Yes, I've already had a look at that as @caseih alerted me to its existence earlier in this thread. I think you (and José Roca) have done an excellent job at building a usable dynamic wstring class. What does strike me from reading the various threads on unicode strings is what a fra...
