Re: sub/function as datatype

Thanks for those new additions. I remember having been in need for this in the past. I would like to make a suggestion however. Procedure pointer seems to be best illustrated in tbe case of the callback technique. Paul Doe posted a terrific example days ago: https://www.freebasic.net/forum/viewtopic...

Re: Machine Learning

Actually, Carnegie's book is a good read - got it in my mid-twenties. May I take this opportunity to recommend it to you. <smile> This book is a must read for anyone who wants to understand the deep roots of what was first heard as marketing. With the time it changed into something less human than ...

Re: Next generation name is FB++ ?

Actually, more of a construct alternative to arrays. It looks like linked lists forementionned. I suggested this as a primary jet:  #macro _FOREACH_(tEnumerator, T)     dim as T    tEnumerator => t1     do #endMacro #macro _NEXT_(tEnumerator)     tEnumerator = *tEnumerator._next      loop until tEn...

Re: Useful defines

Hello, nice idea.

I use a lot of defines, butmost frequently min and max

Code: Select all

#define MIN(a, b)  iif((a)<(b), (a), (b))

Parenthesis are mandatory if the macro wants to handle any expression.

CEIL and FLOOR are also invaluable. But there is a debate on which fastest version one should use.

Re: How you use a shader in freebasic?

As far as I remember D.J.Peters plays a lot with shaders. Do a search in the forum?
Example:

Re: Next generation name is FB++ ?

Not a string... a pointer to the first element of a list. Correct me if I'm wrong. What you mean requires an object model. For instance some program where all is derived from, say FBAPPLICATION. This master object would have many collections of stuff inside. Like, say, a button collection and so on...

Re: What is machine learning?

Better than the joke is keeping an eye on what machine learning really is used for in the current gulf: selecting products you might buy in commercial settings (commercials, related links etc). Mostly that's a business without a deep penalty for mis-predicts (false negatives or positives). It is a ...

Re: Tutorials?

5040 views and no response. Been there and got the tee shirt, so to speak. Sadly, this thread will result in nothing - as has done with all the others in a similar vein. I wouldn't be so pessimistic. When I posted a question about a part of the language, I always received the right good answer, or ...

Re: Tutorials?

Maybe the best form of contribution are examples. We all know the situation, we want to quickly program a .pdf output with cairo for example. "Wait, there was a demo in the example files that came with fbc..." Then you can load this example, change few things and your pogram part is ready...

Re: Tutorials?

I could write some tutorials myself on some subjects that interest me although the code would be very basic. Problem is the subject may not interest anyone else and it would be a wasted effort. Also I would have to create a web page as the QBASIC magazine no longer exists. Hi, I already tried to su...

Re: Why, When and How to Declare / Implement Constructors, Destructor, ..., for UDTs in FB (advanced)

Hi,

I hesitated to post my question. It's both off topic and related to it. I wanted to know if it would be possible to have a comparison between udt constructors and modules contructors. The second thing confuses me a lot, above all for its sharing of a so familiar name.

Thanks!

Re: Next generation name is FB++ ?

I also love freebasic. It has hilevel and low level features that you can mix at will. And for some reason I feel that the developers here know that the old qb wasn't bad at all from the user point of view, and the old style still has a powerful attraction. Moreover the team seems very conscious of ...

Re: Help in return for a donation

Hello, I don't think I can help, I'm just a hobbyist and I don't use autohotkey (I did something in autoit one time years ago). What I know is that people here would help you for free if you expose your issue. However if you want it private, hiring someone at your conditions is just your right of co...
