Re: Sample programs

Can I use Free Basic to: 1. Locate a flight plan file(s) in the Download directory. 2. Check the system date stamp on the file. 3. Calculate the AIRAC Cycle based on the date the file was placed in Downloads. 3. Rename the file from say KPHXKLAX.fpl to FF757KPHXKLAS1801.flp. 4. Move or copy the fil...

Re: Sample programs

Trying to run the examples that come with FreeBASIC-1.05.0-win64. Most of them don't seem to work or am I doing something wrong. Seems a lot of #Include .bi files are not found. Edit ;) More than a discourse, what example do you try to launch so I could try here (or anyone)? I also just installed f...

How to get the updates queue that will be launched at restart?

Hello, This is a quite simple and common issue on windows. The system will trigger updates and installations of various kinds at any next restart. This will not be made with any warning on win10, such as "10 installations will be performed now, approximative time 3 hours 24 min, do you want to ...

Re: Cannot Get up on Win 10

Hmmm... one attempt to install & run FB, 7 answers, links to helpful things all over the place. Maybe a reason to reflect on a little extra button "Compile a helloworld.bas" during installation? You are right. Installing FB doesn't mean that one will subscribe to the forum as a new me...

Re: Cannot Get up on Win 10

Hopefully someone has an idea. I have tried with both the 32 bit and 64 bit downloads. The symptoms are the same with both. The install goes thru without any errors. When I execute the .exe file, the screen flashes once, the nothing else. I have tried executing as an admin and also without admin. F...

Re: Benefits of inline if?

I was not sure if there was a reason to use something like this over a regular IF statement that I was not aware of. There is one weakness with IIF that made me renouncing to use it widely. If I remember well you must use the same type of value everywhere, even in nested IIF. So that's not taking p...

Re: Benefits of inline if?

Hi as far as I can remember from some tests I made previously, IIF are necessary with DEFINEs... Otherwise the text replacement will fail in some expressions. IIF can sit in a single line instruction, while IF EnDIF require generally line breaks that split the whole thing. I'm not a pro so sorry if ...

Re: Chromosome viewer - a brick for a genetic lab game

Some update. I finally figured out how it was supposed to work. That's old stuff. The history of this started with the conversion of a code from BasicCoder2 that rotates a sphere. I wanted to make it a UDT. Then playing with it it became a chromosome. And finally I found that I should make a game of...

Re: FreeBASIC Namespace Project

One possible solution to both issues would be to let the standard namespace as it is, with all those QB quirks, and evolve the namespaces instead. At first, the new namespaces would contain just syntactic-sugar wrappers for the old functions, but far more easy to maintain and develop. Then, only th...

Re: FreeBASIC Namespace Project

You can't freeze a project like that and at the same time talk about its modernity. Unless you are talking about the modernity as it was in the year 2000(or not even that). I can't do anything, and won't. But just for the fun to show you that you don't get it about what I try to express, I will ret...

Re: What happened to the code of conduct thread?

If you have time, please list and explain what you did. Hi again, so it works! But, thats only a dumb hello world demo. I writed a batch file with a fbc command that does fbc "hello10.bas" I put the batch + the bas file where FBC executable lies in the freebasic portable directory. And it...

Re: What happened to the code of conduct thread?

@TT If you have time, please list and explain what you did. For now nothing very impressive, just grabbed the portable version as a zip file. I'm unzipping it right now. It's quite long! What I can say is that I'm not to much at ease with my new win10 thingy for the moment. The computer itself is a...

Re: FreeBASIC Namespace Project

IMHO the first is reasonable, the second is counterproductive. If you want so much compatibility without thinking, just keep using old versions. Why not? I mean, would someone be happy if C vanished from earth and left the whole space for C++? It's a little extreme ok, dont take this for anything b...

Re: FreeBASIC Namespace Project

We have two sides of this debate: Those who think the current global namespace is already too crowded so argue against any addition to the compiler, and those who just want their old code to continue to work with out edits. I understand and and even sort of agree with both sides, but for the compil...
