In development:

Right now only has the maze rendering and navigation. This is a retro type game heavlity based around the original Wizardry: Proving Grounds game.

Hope to have some enemy encouters at some point.

This was a quick translation from an old Delphi source file (strangely enough, it wasn't really that difficult to re-tool into FreeBASIC).

Not ready to release source code or playable demo just yet...

Cool. The Wizardy game series is really nice so it will be fun to see your project when it gets developed. Good luck!

Here is a limited demo of the Wizardry-based game I'm creating (EXE only, no source included...yet):

http://webpages.charter.net/stevenedwards/WizMap.zip

So far, the only actions available are:

Arrows for turn left and right and move forward.
Simple scripts to handle the "stairs up/down" transistions between floors.

Anyone that remembers the old Wizardry 1 game should have no trouble navigating to the first set of stairs.

I spent some time on code to actually fill in the doors to be a solid color. However, after some play-time with the game, I decided I like the see-through version a lot better. I guess I'll leave it that way.

Trying to finish up the navigation code to mimic the elevators and chutes. As soon as I have the ability to completely travel from the 1st floor to the lowest level of the maze, then I'll begin working on either item collection or monster encounters.

I'm also trying to decide on the complexity of the player's ego: Party based character group or a single player character.

I know single character play would be easier to implement, so I'll probably just go that route in the beginning...

Personally, I prefer the single player scheme. Easier to manage. Either way I am looking forward to seeing this.

OK. I have the stairs up/down, elevators from floors 1-4 and 4-9, and the one-way chute from floor 9 to 10 set in the program.

(For thse who want to test, re-download the WizMap.zip from link in first post.)

This allows me to go from floor 1 down to floor 10. I still need to create the warps that pop the player from location to location at level 10 for it to be completely navigable, but I think I am ready to work on throwing a few enemies and items into the mix.

As you can see from the updated screen shot (at the top - first post), I have incorporated the ability to at least run across the monsters in the maze at pre-determined points. As soon as I have the battle system worked out, I will post an updated demo that will allow the player to encounter and fight monsters.
